Seems like as with the NES mini these are selling out everywhere, anyone else after one? I'm not even sure why, I had an Amiga back then but used to play SNES games (Street Fighter II, Mario Kart) round friends houses. £70-80 also seems like a lot when you can download an emulator to your phone.

Anyone else have an irrational urge for one or already managed to pre-order?

Pre ordered for street fighter 2 and super MARIO, mainly to play with my daughter.

Whilst a retro pi would be an interesting project I've read a lot that the controllers and emulators let things down, hoping a proper console (despite being a fancy emulator) will handle the games like the original console.

Top tip:

You can load games onto it, with a little jiggery-pokery.

I've tried to pre-order, but no joy yet.

Missed out in the last pre-order slot in my local GAME store, they'd sold the last one a couple of hours before we popped in Sad

I bet a lot of them have been bought to sell on for ridiculous prices on eBay.

Argos have it on their website as "Coming soon" with the release date, but no options for any pre-orders unfortunately.

I can't figure out if Nintendo have been genuinely caught out by the demand, or if this is very clever marketing to create demand through perceived scarcity.

With the NES mini maybe, this time seems to be deliberate. What was the cost of the NES anyway, £50? I wonder when Sega will get in on this (although copies of Master systems and Mega drives are still being made) Smile

I've fixed that quote to make it relevant to me.

This is the true sign of getting old; I am now officially my dad faced with a VCR and program mode, trying to muddle through the instruction manual in gibberish.

I don't even understand console technology any more. I can't even comprehend a console that's designed to be as old school as I am.

When I got the PS4 (long after the launch) and tried to play DriveClub on it, it took me several hours to update everything, so I could even start the game. My previous console was the orignal PS2, so this was a bit disapointing. All that with 100Mbps internet connetion. Thinking

Final Fantasy XI takes about 5 hours, even with all the expansions installed by disc. Even now, with a userbase of about 10 and only on PC, it's still throttled to 56K

Would quite like one of these. Can't seem to find any pre-order stock. If anyones comes across one, could you let me know?
I'd imagine that a lot of the stock is going to people looking to resell and make some ££.

Sad but if people didn't buy them they wouldn't do it. There's a topic on HUKD following stock, but TBH by the time it's posted on there it's probably too late (I hate and love that site).

Argos are apparently getting ready to sell some more pre-orders:

COMING SOON

We’ll have this ready to order shortly.

Wait for it... Very Happy

Mines out for delivery. I forgot about this thread.

There is a website called 'Stock informer' they email you when there is stock available. You have to be pretty quick. I got mine from game and it sold out about 30 mins after I got the email. If you want one that is your best chance although it may be too late now.

I don't quite like the look of the SNES mini, the USB ports just doesn't fit the design. The NES looks much nicer. I'm even thinking of building a NesPi*.

What's NesPi?: https://youtu.be/w0kmd7kwRjo?t=2m1s
