Planning a few days away there on the bike. I've never ridden further north than Belgium before, but the best biking roads website certainly show it as a decent prospect.

Does anyone have any thoughts on routes not to be missed whilst we're there?

Rough plan is ride up from Calais and get the overnight back from Rotterdam, with a quick blat down to Dussledorf to max the bikes on the autobahn

Obviously, the trip will include the obligatory overnight in Amsterdam... Laughing

I lived there for 10 years. It was enough.
...

You could do the Dijk road form Enkhuizen (pretty place) to Lelystad (not pretty at all) but be careful because if it's hot there will be more mosquitoes than you could possibly deal with on a bike. Lots of the roads are new build (post war) so boring. There are better places for biking. I'd skip Holland and head South East from Belgium to Austria.

In 10 years you didn't find any roads worth riding???? Shocked I would not have stayed.

Also, if 10 years was enough, it would stand to reason that 4 days is nowhere near enough! Laughing

As above - it's definitely not a place to visit for it's roads.

Typlically 'interesting' roads develop around geographical features - specifically elevation changes.
Holland is known for being flat with some under sea level.

So you get lots of straight flat roads.

Enjoy Amsterdam for what it is and find you riding fun in Germany.

Can confirm. I live in northern NL and roads are shit and winds strong. Germany is far superior as is Belgium (despite their shit quality of roads)

Done Belgium to death, and Germany is that little bit too far to do anything meaningful there on a 4 day round trip without resorting to spend 2 solid days on motorways. Which I won't do!

The ferries are gone for getting back from Spain, so that's out and France has also been well covered. Dates can't be changed as the other guys have fucked their lives up irreparably by choosing to have children, so aren't free to change the dates for the brief pass they've managed to sell their souls for Rolling Eyes

I can't believe I can't find 600 miles of interesting roads in an entire country surely!! Confused

You should have planned it first, then looked at the number of days required.

Just do the North Coast 500 instead.

Done it! Laughing But it's not do able in 4 days without killing yourself on a motorway for 2 of them.

And the number of days was dictated by 3 peoples wives, so I've got to roll it... Rolling Eyes Laughing

As the only member of my social circle who isn't married with kids, I really can't understand why anyone would want to totally balls their lives up by going down that route Evil or Very Mad

I think you'll be lucky to find 6 never mind 600. Lots of good things about Holland but fun biking roads, if they exist, are a very well kept secret.

I limit my riding in Holland to getting through it as quickly as possible. If it didn't have ferry ports I'd never, ever be on a bike there.

If you'd ever seen Dutch bikers in Germany or Italy you would know that good roads are scarce in the Netherlands, the dutch bikers go crazy for a twisty road.

As far as biking trips go it's pretty pointless

I've ridden through it a few times on the way to nurburgring, once had a day spare before going to the ferry so thought I'd use it to explore a bit of Holland away from my usual motorway route to the port

Was an epic waste of time and made the south east of England look like a must visit biker destination. Every road was pretty much straight and the entire place is pancake flat.

The polders are interesting if not exactly fun biking roads.
Towards Germany there are some nice forest areas and slight hills.

Take the A58 out to Vlissingen - not special but that's where a lot of Dutch guys head for. And maybe have a look at Willemstad - again very popular with bikers at the weekend, and pretty Very Happy

Go to Amsterdam, park the bike up for a few days, get hammered.
Then go to Enschede and find that bar that stocks 180 different bottled beers, park the bike up for a few days, and get hammered. Mission accomplished.

You could take a photo of a windmill in between.

It's a terrible place for biking. Head across northern Luxembourg into the Eiffel and Mosel region of Germany 👍
