About half a year ago I got a Halversson jacket and Jofama trousers, I noticed they'd started letting water through so washed them with Nikwax tech wash and things have improved.
today however after taking the trousers off this morning they were a little clammy inside, but after having them hung up all day at work they were wet inside when I put them on - what gives?
Just need another round of washing and put some nikwax waterproofing stuff in with them this time? ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Decent bike gear in general has two protective layers. The outer generally cordura and an inner membrane.
The outer layer has a Durable waterproof repellent (DWR) coating which wears out. Most DWR coatings are fluoropolymer based and can't really be replaced outside of an industrial environment, about the best you can do is use something like Nikwax to replicate the coating.
Once the coating has worn out the outer fabric can become saturated with water which stops the membrane working.
In my experience even after using things like Nikwax you never seem to have the same level of waterproofness as when new EXCEPT with Goretex clothing.
I've tried the various reproofers such as Grangers, TX.direct spray, TX.direct wash in and found the wash in the only one that makes any difference. The other two just don't seem to work and are hard to apply. I've also used fabsil gold which is good but again not the easiest to apply and takes a few days to dry.
If you go to www.blacks.co.uk they often have the 1 litre sizes of Nikwax buy one get one free. Be carefull as its really buy one get the cheapest free so can take multiple orders delivered to store to get the biggest discount. |

Bought goretex new and second hand off ebay. Jacket, trousers and gloves.
Washed second hand stuff with nikwax tech wash and tx direct wash in (£15 from tesco). Repeat the procedure every six months for both sets of gear. I am always dry no matter how shitty the weather. ____________________ yzf 600r |

Yeh, think I've not kept on top of the washing and TKwash in and that's the problem.
Halvarssons have a good reputation for being weather proof or so I hear and Jofama are one of their brands having the same waterproofing ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Gore Tex is under-rated. I require my normal kit to not oblige me to pull over and pull on an awkward, annoying combination of trouser and jacket over my boots and such. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
