Hi all.

Couple of questions. When going into a pay and display car park is it always free to park? A couple of times over ive parked up and feels so wrong just wandering off lol

Second one is about tolls. Do you pay? Is it free and there are specific lanes to be in or just go up to booths and they let you through for free?

Cheers in advance.

No it is not you need to check the signs to see if charges apply as they can vary.

In a nearby town there is a council car park. If you park in a car bay then you pay as normal. However there is a designated area which is a funny 1/3 of a pie shape where you can park motorbikes for free in there.

Dartford crossing has no charge for motorbikes. Others depend on where it is. In I've found you pay at all toll booths regardless of your vehicle. The only time I didn't pay was in Asia crossing from Istanbul into Asia but that was more the fact I didn't have a pre-payment card and somebody had crashed through the barrier anyway.

That's not to say there aren't tricks that allow you not to pay.

Severn bridge free. M6 toll road not. Plan route and check online if you find tolls.

Hi

Sometimes if there is someone to ask I'll ask and I find alot nothing on signs to say free yet it was. So was hoping a simple yea always lol
But I'll keep just reading signs and hoping.

Toll wise what's the easiest way to pay then or is it literally pull up. Gloves off. Fumble around etc etc. Seems so illogical not to accommodate bikes universally.

Cheers

Toll wise, in the UK; pull up, fumble around, hold up traffic, pay, put kit back on and ride off. Then 6 bikes behind you repeat. Keep doing that and eventually bikes might go free.

I never knew there were toll roads in England, apart from some bridges and tunnels, until I just Googled it after reading your post. Neutral

Car parks are free if you remove the front wheel from your bike and lie it on its side.

Plus the added bonus of the council taking it to look after it for you to make sure its not stolen.

Hi T. I had the same problem yesterday in Blackpool. The car park P&D signage didn't mention motorbikes, so I checked the Council Website, and on there it said if you park in the designated motorcycle bay it's free, but in a normal bay you need to pay.

I would assume most UK council owned car parks are the same, but always worth checking on their website before you do.
