Hi
My coolant drain plug on the front of my engine gets hit with water and crap it seems even with the Fenda Extenda and was looking rusty even though it always has ACF50 on, I have changed it for a stainless bolt today and wondered if it would cause any corrosion problems?. I was thinking it shouldn't as its the fancy coolant that is supposed to work with all metals?.

Thanks

Mostly, no. Some stainless grades are superbly resistant to corrosion (and equally difficult to machine) but most of the 300 series will work fine as a drain plug and should never tarnish. It's probably 303 stainless because that's easy to machine.

Leave the bolt loose, then the dripping oil will prevent rust. Thumbs Up

A smear of COPASLIP or a wrap of PTFE tape around the thread should reduce the likelihood of any problems.

Threadlock is very good preventing corrosion, I use it on a lot of bolts where it is not specified.

This was my first thought. Aluminium and Stainless are poor bedfellows.
Are most sump plugs not usually steel plated with Chromium, Brass, etc?

Copper and SS are not a god mix due to Galvanic effect.

SS needs moly as a lube.

Thread lock or PTFE paste will work OK.

Or paint a standard steel/iron plug with plenty of rust-proof paint.

If there's oil dripping from your coolant drain plug you've got bigger issues than some corrosion.

DISCLAIMER: I may or may not have misread the thread and thought OP was talking about his sump bolt. Doh!
I did wonder why he gave a shit if that was rusty. Laughing
