Effectively the same as a disc lock, but a load more hassle

A brake lock? It's quicker and easier to fit. That's why I use one.

I knew I was doing it right all these years. I love my Kawasaki Turd, even the brown and furry bits.

That was in reply to the wheel clamp suggestion, but I wasn't quite quick enough to be the first post.

Ultimate answer is that all bikes are easy to steal, they have convenient places to hold them and push them around, and can't be easily locked down to solid objects but need to be. Can also be lifted into a van quite easily too, (and more easily than most by some BCF members) Wink

Cars are too heavy to easily push around, too big to wheel along pavements and pedestrian zones, and don't need to be locked to the ground, as they have a locked shell that prevents you easily getting to the controls or releasing the brake etc.

With the theft from the Porsche... I'm wondering how long until they step it up to proper car-jackings.

Of course, so far it's a fair bit easier to get away on a bike.

This thread must be pure gold to any wannbe bike thief Sad

You lot have given them all the information they need Thumbs Up

Peppers goes downstairs to check all his security Shocked .

Apart from disc lock and heavy chain, my best security when I'm out is to park my bike somewhere very people busy, the more people around the better.
Works for me, so far.

Not sure if srs.

They've been Going Equipped with battery powered angle grinders for some time. That defeats any security. It's now only a question of which bike they take.

Am just going to chip in on the
Quote:
Or a skateboard.

line I've read a good few times.

Has anyone here ever tried to move anything of this kind of weight on a skate board further than the end of their garage in a straight line?
If it's a half decent deck then it won't snap instantly. Good job.

They are steered by leaning your weight left or right so once it's on, IF you can balance it perfectly then you're off going in a straight line only.

You'll have to shift that weight to get a round a corner without dropping it and that involves more than just leaning the bike, you have to shift that tire across a 40 grit sandpaper board...?

Then there's small stones that will dig in and stop the board dead in its tracks (leads to many a tarmac 'super man' skate boarder).

Basically, it's going to be feckin awkward and you'll be lucky to get to the end of the road without dropping it a few times let alone trying to get around corners.

In order to maintain balance and control (good luck using that back brake to slow down whilst balancing it on a skate board?) you'll be easily out run by old grannies on their zimmers and trash blown in the wind...

If it's a public place, during the day, its safe to say it's not a viable option. Just stroll after the cunt's until they get to tired/bored/they persevere long enough for the police to attend (weeks?).

Even moving just a few paving slabs is enough of a ball ach, skate boards don't go straight, or even in the direction you want them to with heavy weights on them Laughing

If they can read and if they can get the laptop they have just stolen to work.
If they know what a web site is.

However, dont you think that the more professional c*nty bike thieves monitor web sites?
I`ll bet you a dollar they do.

I'm sure they do too - work out potential targets. I don't think they need any help with the main event, though.

Damn, we let slip that bolt cutters can also cut chains. They'd never have figured it out by themselves. Sad

Someone mentioned the use of skateboards to aid moving a locked bike.

Does that mean the plod can now nick someone with a skateboard as they are "going equipped" Laughing Rolling Eyes
