4 to 6 weeks if you're lucky, don't expect DVLA to be quick/accurate/correct about anything, ever.

Email doesn't arrive from memory; it's just a V5 that'll drop through the door.

What, essentially, are you concerned about to drive the question?

Thanks ebbs73 that's the info I was after
I plan on buying the bike and I had heard about the online method and just thought it would be good to get instant verification of ownership after handing over life savings

Sold my last car and last bike with the online service, both times got an email confirmation within an hour and postal confirmation within a few days. Only downside is the website is closed outside the hours of 7am to 7pm (no, really!) Rolling Eyes

Receipt.

You wouldn't carry that either.

Basically, you can't, but I can't imagine why you'd be asked to provide it unless you've been 'on the rob'

I don't get that. The registered keeper's responsible for the vehicle, it would make sense if you had to provide proof if that was not the case. The only thing that seems to stop them's if the vehicle has finance. So if you have debts finance everything.

Ok then No problem
I won't be out on the rob anytime soon Very Happy
Thanks all for the info gained
Will try and get the bike bought before 7pm
And I think I will try the online route as it seems to be faster and maybe safer!!!!!

Err.... The new owners part of the V5, on the second page, fill it out in your name and you can do magic things like tax it at a post office, or, even, show it to plod as PROOF OF F ing OWNERSHIP!

It's not proof of ownership. Sentiment remains the same on rest of it but green slip of V5 isn't. Nor is the rest of it.

That's why I asked what's got OP worried.

The V5 is essentially the sucker thats gonna get fucked for tax/sorn cock ups, hence its registered to my cat.

I await the court letter sending Dylan the Cat for failing to SORN.

I have lost the V5, so re-applying for that should be lulz. Laughing Laughing

Sorry arry
I never answered your question nothing has got me particularly worried I just read that you could do it on line and wanted to know if the forum users had any yay or nay reasons not to
I am a little confused on the proof of ownership thing but am not planning to attract plods attention so shouldn't be an issue
Police documentary that's I have seen show anpr cameras saying whether bike has a registered keeper or not so surely if there needs to be a registered keeper then that must act as proof of ownership
Also when you sell a vehicle buyers would expect to see the logbook/v5 in the sellers name
Obviously being new to all this at the tender age of 46 I stand to be corrected/ educated

Err.. New Keeper's part of the V5, not New Owners part, hence, not necessarily new owner !!

V5 Clearly states it's not proof of owbership

So. Lets see what we have here. You have the new owners form, properly filled in with your name and address. It is respect of the motorcycle whose registration number is clearly shown. You have proof of identity that you are that same person whose name appears on the new owner form of the V5c....... Am I missing something here or am I not the owner, or keeper, who in law, is responsible for the legality of this machine? If not, I have been conned sixteen times this year alone.

Yep.

In law, 'Keeper' is not necessarily the same as 'Owner' and as it says in big letters, on the front of a V5C (and as posted above) "THIS DOCUMENT IS NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP, it shows who is responsible for registering and taxing the vehicle".

They have changed the wording now, but IIRC the green part (V5C/2) used to be called the 'new keeper's supplement' - nothing at all to do with ownership.

Not entirely on topic, but I realised last week I hadn't got my v5. Thursday call, v5 Monday!
