My 1998 cbr 600 seems to be not charging properly, had the meter out and I'm getting 13v with the ignition off, 14.3 at idle and 13.8 at 5000rpm after charging, now 12 hours later voltage with ignition off is 12.95.

I thought voltage should be lower at idle than at 5000rpm?

Haynes says to check the reg/rec for continuity and resistance but not too sure what I'm looking for, any help would be appreciated.

Voltage at the reg/rec is 12.4 so faulty connection somewhere between it and the battery?

The main problem is it won't start after leaving it overnight, starter turns really slowly like there's not enough power, I did what the Haynes book describes as a leak test and got a reading of 0.4 milliamps. Is it normal for the voltage to be higher at idle? I thought volts were supposed to increase with engine speed? Thanks for your help

Hi there. have you tried a new battery?

perhaps check the voltage when its just been turned off and then again in the morning before you try to start it.

Mine is the same and has been the last few years no probs.
What`s the voltage when switching on and when pressing the button?

12 hours after I last checked, battery with the ignition off is still 12.95, reads 12.65 withe ignition on and when pressing the starter shows between 8.5 or so and 12, battery's about 2 years old

I had to get one of these for my CBR not too long ago.

Keep an eye on your voltages after replacing - just in case something caused the battery to get deaded.
