So according to various news sources the Government is shortly to announce that from Aplril next year any online site that provides access to pornographic material will be required to take credit card details from patrons before allowing them access to the site. The scope for these measures hasn't been defined but is likely to include video sites and maybe forums.

No idea how this will be implemented though, or why it's even necessary after the government only recently made every UK internet user volunteer into accessing filth on their internet connection.

Anyway since Ste exists and I refuse to put my credit card details online for anything, you will all be dearly missed.

Razz

Well i'm scuppered then, i'm 38 and have survived this long without the need to own a credit card

Why is it that society deems in necessary to own a credit card at the age of 18, no wonder this country has a debt problem

Never had one either (or any credit). Part of the problem was banks sent pre-approved credit cards to youngsters, that's never going to end well.

- Most porn sites will be outside the UK so regs don't apply to them anyway Laughing

To be honest, this is one of the areas of the internet that really needs some control.

God only knows what a 12 year old thinks normal sex is these days!

If the government got it's act together, after verification, it could issue all prospective internet porn users with their very own card, with unique number for accessing internet porn.
The card would be your very own "I'm a Wanker" card! Mr. Green

Yeah whatever. Laughing

It's now been more than five years the High Court ruled that ISPs had to blick access to The Pirate Bay and that' been a complete failure. Plus since then many other websites have also been unsucessfully blicked.

So they're not going to force ISP's to block it? If not now, when?

Its interesting that you're identity is so tied into borrowing money that Credit Cards have effectively become ID Cards.

Looks like they don't have to though. Basically if you don't use credit/take part in the rat race you don't exist. Its the way things are going. Dont use credit? Dont have Internet access? No email address? You're screwed.

I've yet to find myself unable to purchase anything through lack of a credit card. Even renting a van recently where they said they needed one, hidden in the small print of the small print they still accepted debit.

You'd have thought that a debt advisor would know that you can do everything with a debit card that you can with a credit card. Rolling Eyes
