Hi!

Tempted to try a supermoto for the commute to work. It's only a couple of miles so don't need a cruiser, been having a look at 2 stroke 250s (or whatever) for pottering about on. Stick some road tyres on and off I go.

Anyone else use for roads or are they mostly for off road?

Looking for anything up to 2k so have a watchlist full of ktm 200-250,
Crm250s and that sorta thing.

Any advice appreciated thanks

My Beta 2T is an absolute pig to ride in urban traffic.

That said, I've got a 90 mile road ride on it on Friday to get to a rally. Twisted Evil

You'll be fine!
Back in the 70's and 80's half the world was commuting on a 2 stroke, wasn't a problem then, no reason it should be a problem now!

I'll assume they'll be a big difference between my 80s 2 stroke ETZ and a modern 250 exc.

Suppose the best option would be to find one to test ride and go from there

Cheers

KTM 2 strokes are incredibly capable competition machines.

I would be hesitant to use one for a regular short commute. Whether that is based on real world issues is another matter.

CRM is more road biased, so happier on one of them.
(I did have a CRM125 I sometimes commuted on, but that uses a derivative of an NSR engine, so not really comparable - it was terrible off road.)

This is on the Herts TRF Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/groups/HertsTRF/

But, would you really want to commute on a bike with 6 hour service intervals?

For sale
Gas Gas EC 200 2 stroke
The bike is a 2006 with a 2012 plastics upgrade so looks like the new ones at a fraction of the costs.
Fully road legal with MOT till September
Load of spares as pictured
Digital speedo
Rear disk guard
Fmf exhaust
Few anodised bits
Over all is in good condition but has been used so has a few scratches but it is a off road bike Smile
Runs well starts very easy and i have serviced it very 5-6 hours.
There is a few different sprockets and lighting kit for the new owner to set the bike up how they want.
Nice low seat height and very smooth power makes this bike an easy ride what ever the event and would suit a new rider or an experienced rider.
Only selling bike as i have upgraded.
Bike is not kept at my house for any of the trolling thief's out there.
£1850 no dreamers please, if you don't have the money don't bother contacting me.
Message me if genuinely interested many thanks

ps looks like it has only a daytime MOT, which would make for an interesting commute Laughing

Any reason why you are looking at 2 stroke only?

Not in particular, just something different to what I've had

Usual advice on KTM competition 2 strokes:
Typically the 200 is a very revvy, 'nothing, nothing 'bang' power band, with the power hitting hard from mid revs.
The 250 and 300 however have a more linear power delivery than most 4 strokes, with loads of low down power and no particularly discernible power band.

The 250SX (motocross) has a much harder hitting powerband with higher peak power. For a pure-fun road supermoto, this is what I'd choose. Less so for commuting.

My mates 250 exc has quite a lairy power band. Must be how it's setup? Not overly happy off the pipe, but can still chug if needed.

Maybe it had a SX pipe on it - you can also just the powervalve springs.

All the 250s and 300s I've ridden have been pretty linear.
Even my 144 doesn't have a noticable hit - only the 200s I've noticed having an aggeressive pickup,

My 87 350 enduro was very lairy - but that didn't have a powervalve and things were a bit less refined back then.
At least off-pipe it still made plenty of power.

CRM 250 for sale here at 1,500 pounds.

I can't vouch for them though, it's not a TRF connection.

My friend works for Leisure Trail and tells me that CRM parts are getting very hard for them to source new now so could be a factor in purchases??

I'd go for a DT200WR, WR200 or DT230 if you could as they are mega reliable and there are loads of importable spares from Asia / France etc
