A week ago I sent emails to 10 Suzuki main dealers about the headlight on my GSXR1000L3.
And also to ask about a new GSXR1000 I intend to buy in winter for export

I got 2 replies. One from Thunder Road who were very helpful about the light and were keen to sort me a new bike and sort the VAT out. And the other from Single Tracker who I bought my current bike from. They also have been very helpful since I bought the bike.

Why did 8 dealers completely ignore me ? If I was selling something for £100, I'd reply to every email hoping for a few hits. But somebody selling a £14,000 bike should surely grasp at every chance of a sale.

Well, if/when I do get a new one, it will be from one of the 2 above

You think dealers are bad?
Try getting replys to emails or your calls answered by engineering specialists, or custom one off parts manufacturers.

I swear they get to a stage where they only want so many customers, and usually repeat business and often only from people that are well known in motorsports or competition circles.

The phrasing 'any more' implies they once did. I've never experienced it.

Warm and fuzzy whilst extracting cash - and then cold and distant thereafter.

Ive had a small part for the spacker away being powder coated for over 3 weeks. I called after 2 weeks and they
hadn't even started on it yet. Must chase that later today.

This thread reminds me of my first attempt at buying an Er6f. I walked into Bath Road Motorcycles with
4 grand cash in my pocket a few days after passing my test. I was looking at a 2008 Er6f he'd had there for some time.
I made a bee line to the bike I wanted to buy, walked round and round it for a good 5 mins in full view of the sales staff.
Then calmly walked out again, got in my wifes car and drove away.

As soon as I arrived home I shot them off an email about how I was stood in their shop 20 minutes ago, clearly looking at a
specific bike, with £4000 literally in my pocket and a "I must buy a bike RIGHT NOOOOOOW!" look on my face,
(I even sent a pic of the pile of cash on my kitchen table) and how they let me walk out again without so much
as a "Can I help you?". I got a snivelling reply offering their sincerest apologies and promising their very best attention
if I wanted to return to look at the bike again. Being a man of principle, I of course invited them to 'get lost'.

Ended up buying an as new 13 plate with 1500 miles on the clock via an ebay auction for the same price as their 2008
with 17k and a dented tank. Did me a favour in the long run, but it pissed me off at the time.

It seems not.

I test rode a Brand New Ducati Panigale at Ducati Coventry with the view to putting a deposit down and ordering it from them...when I returned from the rest ride the sales bloke was tied up with another customer so I told him not to worry and just to contact me by phone or email with the figures and I'd pop back in the week to sort paperwork etc when it was quieter.

I never heard back off him!!

Clearly Ducati are doing so well that they can easily let a £14k sale just walk away without a second thought.

I expect that every staff member was so genuinely busy with their jobs that they couldn't find 2 minutes to reply, even at their own convenience.

It had nothing to do with them being lazy or incompetent or disinterested or contemptuous, or that they'd rather banter or take smoke breaks, or do pretty much anything except doing what they're ostensibly being paid for.

Sure of it.

Working at a bike dealership would be a good job if it wasn't for those pesky customers. I mean, what is it they want?!

They covet the precious bikes of the shop.

I've had exactly the same thing at Fowlers. Luckily for me, as I also got a much better deal elsewhere (from a fellow BCFer).
I haven't been back since. Not even for a bacon butty or parts. Fuck them, they clearly don't want or need my business.

If anyone perseveres with this sort of behaviour and ends up going back in, begging them to take your money - you're worse than them.

Yeah, you tell 'em! Leave us alone! Laughing

Nah, as OP found, there are good and bad salesmen, and good and bad shops. I was never a very good salesman, but not because I was indifferent; more that I didn't want to sell shit (parts/clothing/accessories in my case), so was sometimes guilty of not pushing things enough with some of the bosses I worked for. Guess I empathised with the customers too much Laughing

This poor dealer service attitude is all over.
When I tried to buy my Chinese pos brand new, I went to two places.
Twice the dealers were disinterested and I ended up leaving with the monies still in my pocket.

I found one on thief-bay at a fraction of the price.
After a bit of work/cost, I have a usable bike.

Local Beta place is very nice and helpful. Thumbs Up

It probably helps that the staff own the business and compete in enduros and trials on the same bikes that they sell.

But, yeah, I've had the same in the past when buying motorcycles.

Dealer apathy is the reason I traveled further afield to by bikes, and I've had the cash to buy a bike right there and then and been ignored more than once.

I assumed they thought another mug will be along shortly, then you see the closed down sign in the window Rolling Eyes
