There's little point insuring against theft in London, for my risk profile at least - unless I had an almost new bike, excess + extra premium (including subsequent years, and loss of NCB) exceeds the replacement value of the bike by some distance. In the medium run, all bikes are either stolen, crashed or never ridden.
I'd still report stolen vehicles to the police because it's important that their stats reflect crime levels. Their stats probably also affect premiums, but then I don't insure for theft.
Most recently I had someone steal the ECU out of one of my SH300s! Broke into the tail section, pulled out the wiring and disconnected the ECU. Currently working on renovating the garage and replacing the door so bikes can be parked inside instead.
I'm not particularly surprised at the cynical response by the police here - they're stretched dealing with offences against the person, never mind the tens of millions of pounds worth of bikes that are being stolen on a yearly basis. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

Rage... building...

For future reference:
Victim: Oh, you won't show up? Not a problem my dear fellow / madam. I will be at this location at this time bearing my machete, at which point I will cleave the pikey vermin's head clean off of its shoulders. If you want to be there to clean up, that's entirely up to you.
Response unit : Oi, you said you'd have a stabber.
Victim: And you said you weren't able to attend. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

When my R6 was nicked a decade ago, or more. Popo just shrugged their shoulders down the phone and gave me a crime reference number. |

You will need to notify them to get a reference number for the insurance claim. The only way I see this improving is if the insurers didn't pay out unless the police attend but then the public would have to riot followed by the PM's obligatory "lessons will be learned" statement. |
