but as the op cant tell the difference between imp gallons and us gallons, why bother being accurate?

1200cc twin doing an unknown type of riding but returning 30mpg? Sounds about right. My 1200 adventure would get 50mpg if I rode like I was on a test. BUT, normal riding, about 40. As said before, buy a bike that size and expect to beat aygo consumption is just delusional.

So is your dim-wittedness. If you can't afford the petrol don't buy such a big bike. Purchase price is only one small element of running costs.

whoa someone has a stick in their ass, or is it a dildo?

I am using US gallons because thats what the on board computer on my bike measures in, and that is the industry standard.

I don't think you're correct on US gallons being the standard for MPG over here - the only things I've seen with US MPG readings are US based vehicles. Anyway, from Wikipedia, so it must be true -

6 l/100 km (47 mpg‑imp; 39 mpg‑US) @ constant 120 km/h (75 mph)

So 47 mpg from the MCN review and Wikipedia is imperial (UK), it would be 39 (US). It doesn't help that the US say that their gallons are imperial too Smile Using litres at least guarantees uniform units.

It does seem a little low, to be fair, depending upon the type of riding you are doing and how you ride (just being in the "wrong" gear can have a nasty effect on fuel economy). For example, my Pan 1300 will do between low 30s and low 50s mpg on a longish run, depending upon the roads and how hard I ride it (e.g. tickling along at 50mph on an average speed camera motorway will be at the top of that, A roads ridden with enthusiasm at the bottom). That is a massive difference. When it had a stuck open thermostat it was always at the lower end of that range.

Why on earth would you think that? Do you have a US import bike?

Perhaps it's measuring in nautical miles as well.

Course it does. German bike using US units of measurement. Makes perfect sense.

Agreed.

I feel at this rate, he'll become a smear. Wonder how judgmental people are against his Repsol jacket and hi viz helmet whilst riding a BMW. My guess, about 34mpg. #maths

If he's a true BMW rider then the Polite vest will hide the Repsol jacket.
