PostPosted: 00:08 - 22 Jul 2017    Post subject: What would you say to a younger you? Reply with quote

I was thinking about this the other day, and the school thread got me wondering further.

So I put it out to you lot, What would you say, positive advice or negative to a younger you?

For me, I spent way to much time wondering what other people were thinking about me. Lets just say, a large amount of bullying featured throughout my school life, so I spent a lot of time wondering what people were thinking and trying to be as unnoticeable as possible.

So I would say to myself, Stop giving a fuck what people/bully's think of you. Tell them to fuck off, and live you life how ever you want. These people may seem important now, but in the future, they will mean fuck all and have no impact in your life in the long term. If if this gets you in trouble, it really, really does not matter, and may in-fact be character building.

Your turn...

Thumbs Up

(Edit- Mrs grr isn't the bitch I'm referring to, I'd definitely tell younger me to sort her out.)

1. You should have murdered him when you had the chance. It would have saved everybody a lot of hassle.
2. Save more.
3. Get more exercise but don't give up food.
4. Be less afraid of authority, earlier.

Should have put a ring on it when I first had the chance, done it now.
Gone out with that girl who still looks hot.
Realise you were a hunk back then, lost it all now.
Keep up the swimming and polo.
Moved out of parents earlier.
Go to the pub more often after work, the only way to get on.
Work less hard, let others take the strain.

This has been done before but who cares.

My advice: when someone gives you an opportunity, TAKE IT!
When you get offered that machine fitter's apprenticeship when you were 17, TAKE IT!
Don't be a gentlemen Wink
You really really really don't need to spend every penny of your wages on crap you don't need.

"Haven't you got anything better to do than pester me for advice?"

To which I'd probably have to add, "Anyway, you really want advice from me? Look how I turned out!"

On a more serious note, I'd definitely tell him to be a little more restrained with the throttle if he gets into bikes.
I'd also tell him to be a little more patient with his trade choice at the RAF careers office, and wait for the trade vacancy he really wanted to become available - what's another few months of working as a labourer in an office furniture factory going to hurt if it means a more enjoyable career for the best part of your working life?

Would you tell him not to get into bikes? I might, it's too late now as it's under my skin, but I'd be a lot healthier and in a better position (work wise/financially) if I'd never taken up riding.

Ok so no bikes, would you have not found another obsession?
Would that have not of got under your skin and cost you a fortune?

No, I wouldn't even expect him to totally behave himself on them. I'd just try to make him see that you can be a bit safer than I was and still have fun on them. There wasn't any such thing as track days when I was a lad for one thing. So I might encourage him to do that, rather than getting his full-on high speed kicks on the road so much. But as well as the downside, I've had great times on bikes, so wouldn't want to deny him that, if that's what he wanted.

As for me, I've done what I've done, and am where I am. Regrets now are pointless.
