Question

Did a few searches on BCF didn't come up with much (mebbe I used naff search arguments Smile )

In your immediate family how many of you ride bikes ? How acceptable is your bike riding to the rest of your family ? I have a few mates whose wives / husbands / partners / parents hate the fact their other half / kid rides a bike. In our house:-

I ride a CBR900RR2, my wife rides a CBR600F2 and our younger son (20) rides a T509 Speed Triple.

How many other "biking families" are then on BCF ?

Over the past 5 years, I've managed to get both my brothers on 2 wheels, just my mum and little sis to go but I think they'll be a bit more of a challenge.

I'm afraid neither my mother or father ride bikes, nor does my elder sister.

The only other members of my family that have had bikes was my Uncle (in law) who had a Goldwing (pretty sure that doesn't actually count as a bike!), and my Grandfather who used his motorcycle and side car as the main family transport for years Very Happy

I'm very impressed with your motorcycling family. I only wish mine was the same, it would improve our parking issues no end!

Myself and my sister.

Uncles mostly used to ride when younger, granny was not ashamed to jump in a sidecar when she was alive. Only person to complain used to be my mother, until somebody pointed out that she used to 'borrow' her brothers bike every now and then.

My younger brother and I both ride, me a Thundercat, and him a GSX600F. My sister-in-law also rides, an SR125.

However, my dad's been threatening to get a trike for when he retires.....

Dad used to, mum quite happy on pillion or in sidecar, sister no. 1 had a moped until she got a car, sister no. 2 and brother both considering scooters for commuting.

Wife grudgingly accepts me having a bike, but it wouldn't take too much to get her on a scooter Smile

Dad owns 4 bikes - One is on the road, one needs an engine rebuild and the other two are in cardboard boxes!

He's the only other person who rides, mum can't even drive because of her eyesight.

He still wasn't too happy about me getting a bike, but regularly used to tell a story where his mum forbid him from getting one, yet he still did - so I told him I was getting one weather he liked it or not and I'd be prepared to listen to his advice, provided it was from a bikers point of view not a fathers... don't know 100% how well that worked out thou, listened anyway.

I'm the only member of my family in the UK that rides. A cousin of mine in Canada has started to ride bikes now though. Smile

Most of my family don't like bikes and tell me how dangerous they are at every opportunity. Rolling Eyes

Know what you mean (well sort of). People who know our son(but not us) ask us as his parents why we let him ride a bike, I then explain I don't own a car and ride a bike all the time Smile

When I eventually find a bike, I'll be the only one. Having said that, I seem to have fired some interest, and my lady is talking about doing her CBT Very Happy
My Dad used to bike (long, long time ago) but nothing serious.Long before I turned up so that's some 30 plus years at least.

Its just me and my dad who are the bikers of our family. But both my sister and mom love bikes, so I don't have a problem there. Thumbs Up

Both my dad and myself are bikers, as well as a number of my extended family. My little brother is probably going to get one soon too.

My mother and my nan were absolutely set against me having a bike when i first showed an interest. My dad wasnt really supportive (pussywhipped!). I told them i wasnt really interested what they thought, and they could start telling me what to do when i could tell them what haircut to get. Then i paid for it myself (same as car, house etc.). Cool

My dad once owned a BSA Bantam (or something like that), but then he decided before I was born, that bikes were boring!! So I've had to restart the passion again. But it's only me at the moment who owns a bike. D'oh.

My dad used to a long long time ago, my mum was his biker chick and used to pillion on the back of my uncle's bike too.

She stopped my brother getting a bike when he was old enough but the argument didn't work on me.

I currently ride an 02 Blade and my wife has a 2000/1 NSR125 in the garage that she hasn't ridden since being pregnant and giving birth. She's all up for selling her bike but I think it's with a view to getting something different later on.

We have already discussed what we would do if our 10 week old son wants a bike. Rolling Eyes

My Mum hasn't got a problem with my bikes any more and keeps mentioning going pillion, somehow I think not. Laughing
