Look at that and tell me modern bikes have improved on those lines.

Back then, a lot of it was to do with the potential you saw in personalising a bike I think.

I think the wider, on-display air cooled engines gave a kind of presence to a bike too, especially with IL4s. Also, the lines of front mudguard, tank, side panels and tail piece could carry a colour theme right through from front to back. There was a kind of swoopy elegance that could be achieved. Today, with all these angular lines and little plastic panels tacked on here, there and everywhere, there's no overall shape to a bike's bodywork, so what does it matter if you paint everything matt black? If you try a colour theme, you just have a splash of brightness here, a bit there, but nothing ties together.

At first, I thought, "what is the OP's beef?"

Then I looked at some new bikes over the weekend and found myself starting to agree.

2017 Suzuki GSX range appears to be only available in matt black, with a choice of tiny coloured parts.

Didn't mind it too much myself, and I can see why they do it, but I imagine that if you didn't like black it could be a bit of an issue! Very Happy

Coincidentally, the Diavel is the only recent bike that I would take pride of ownership in. But not in black. It would have to be in red, and colour-coded afterwards if necessary.

Limited Edition Royal Enfield Classic Despatch, they made 200 in blue, tan and green. This one has shorter silencer, Triumph Scrambler bars, headlamp grill, bash plate and Continental TKC80s. Come to OMGWTFBCFBBQ2017, and you'll see it in the flesh, as I pick it up the night before Smile

If ALL you have to grumble about is use of matt black finish, I'd say you are probably onto a winner, count your blessings!!!!

Meh, Buell were doing it before it was cool. Incidentally, this made it very cool indeed.

I am coming to the BBQ I've already paid but I've yet to message tracy for the address. I really like that and I'm after something for the near future to commute on which is better on fuel than my k100.

How much did it cost you Question

Considering something like a cb250 at the moment but they are old and dated. But then I'm considering a trike for come the winter as it's cheaper than car insurance at the moment. Could I be one of the first to have a sit if you may be so kind Question

...

Matte black isn't that bad to be honest I like my bike in matte black even more now. Though I really need to get the fork gaiters on and sort out the other custom parts. Hopefully not too long.
