That's insane. I honestly don't know why employers would risk it, always seems to be women or minorities who baww over nothing.

500k for the above comment?

I can neither confirm not deny that I never have and never will recommend a woman for a job.

Has BCF become the Daily Mail?

Read the full thing, not just the headline...

"found that her dismissal had been unfair and an act of victimisation"...

The Daily Mail are on her side, because Saudi bad-touch.

Still: no wimmins, no problems. No maternity, fewer sick days, fewer "mental health" days, less baww, less compo, fewer tribunals.

Such production, very contributive.

Vexed issue. I would love to support a more 'diverse' workplace, but women, as a general rule, do tend to take the piss. I have a little contract with a big company, I report to a female manager and the woman responsible for ensuring my test machines are serviceable and certified. Both have at least one day a week off, children, you know, either that or they have to 'work from home' for one reason or another. Even if I make a firm appointment, chances are it will be cancelled. Its exasperating and, I overhear, repeated in many other departments. Same thing when I worked at the Uni. I know this much, I would have been sacked if I pulled these stunts. So much for equallity......

This loled me;

Quote:
But three senior judges today ruled the 62-year-old was due every penny after the manager’s comment plunged her into a mental breakdown.

One comment. Plunged. No responsibility herself. Plunged by that one comment.

That women might be a tad more emotional than men.

Irony, anyone?

Edit:

More lolz;

Quote:
The judge said: “The tribunal’s finding may possibly have been generous - we are not in a position to say - but it was not perverse.”

He added: “The basic rule is that a wrongdoer must take his victim as he finds him, eggshell personality and all. That is not inherently unjust”.

Even the judge calls her an emotional neurotic. Laughing

Have you? Try the whole quote Rolling Eyes

The Tribunal either rejected or made no finding on 15 other sex discrimination complaints, but found that her dismissal had been unfair and an act of victimisation.

You have to wonder what did they do to her that she put in the original complaint.

Cos she's complained about sexual harrassment and bullying as well, before that well-meaning but apparently "clumsy" comment upset her and pushed the poor little flower over the edge.

Its really subjective, what one person might stand for as a sexual harrassment is not what someone else might, but you've got to look at it like ... is it interfering with me being able to do my work? No. So I'd be inclined to tell the pervos to STFU and just get on with it.

Still ... bigwedge vs 22K a year till you get pensioned off... Thinking

"plunged" ... typical Mailspeak.
No doubt she threw herself down upon the floor, and cried and cried until she was sick.

Your point is what? It was an unfair dismissal, that's why they paid the price.

Again, your point? reading and quoting... not the same thing.

You still didn't appear to take in the reason she was awarded that amount because you're still trying to bring the sexual harassment part back in (re 15 excluded/rejected complaints).

My point remains that employing a woman has cost BAE over £360,000 plus lawyers fees.

Alternatively, they could stop doing business with the Saudis, go out of business, and employ nobody.

The press coverage of this has been sketchy and sensationalist.

If you look at the actual case, which was instigated after the culmination of a long series of issues dating from 2004, you'll see that it wasn't "one comment" it was a whole series of badly handled HR issues about her treatment at work relating to health, disability, sex discrimination and other it's-not-fairness.

If you care to take the trouble, read this to get a bigger picture

https://www.employmentcasesupdate.co.uk/site.aspx?i=ed21873

Also, remember ET Appeal judgements are about how the law has been applied to a case, not the merits of the case itself.

I say fair enough, she wasn't treated very well, even if she is what HR call a "right pain in the arse".

If you're not happy, why not just quit? She was making less than average wage, and was ostensibly miserable.

Principled stand, or addicted to the attention?

She had a years paid holiday... sorry sick leave (after said comment) and expected to waltz back into her job. At my place if you're off sick for over 6 months you're got rid of.

It would be extraordinarily amusing, not least of all to my bloke, who preoccupies himself with such harrassment on a childishly regular basis.
