It's been a while, but now I have a bike again!

A friend had been using this bike as a commuter for the last 10 years but finally gave up on it after getting married and not wanting to put any more money into it. So he offered it to me instead of it being scraped.

I didn't get a picture of it the day we picked it up, the first is when I started to strip it down:

Striped, new seat section welded in:

And then off to the powder coaters:

The target was to have it all together for the Calne Bike Meet and it made it, passing the MOT the afternoon before:

I've put a few more pictures in an Imgur gallery:

https://imgur.com/gallery/TShHs

It is running like a bag a shite as there's a vacuum leak on one of the intakes so it's currently in pieces again.

Like all projects, there's some bits I'm not happy with but they'll get sorted out in time.

In time I'd like to swap the front end for some USDs and the rear for a 1200 swingarm but that can wait a while, it's cost enough already!

It's everything in one unit - tail light, brake light and indicators:

Apart from the better upgrades you already mention there is nothing I dislike about that.
Engine painting looks really good too. Thumbs Up

I've put all of the pictures I have in a bigger album than the one further up this thread:

https://imgur.com/a/QF9Hs

Maybe not 4 steps but this is the fastest I've ever turned a project around. I got the bike in March and it passed the MOT in July. Considering the Mini (visible in some of those pictures) took ~10 years, that's quite an improvement!

Halfords engine enamel and something like 20hrs of cleaning. It was in a bit of a sorry state to start with.

What did you use to clean the engine with? I'm in a similar predicament with my resto project. Ideally I'd like to clean it/remove paint with the cases in place.

Gunk degreaser, paint stripper, a jet wash and lots of wire brushes and sandpaper. It's not perfect but it's good enough.

The side covers took more work as they had some bad scruffs in. For those I filed out the worst of the marks and then used paper to get a good enough surface for paint.

Thanks, if I can get close to looking like yours I'll be pleased.
