Bike wont start, My fuck up most likely

Aprilia RS 125

Bike was running well after having a new ignition coil fitted today.

Started the bike up to take it for a short run. Noticed the fuel was on RES and without thinking i changed it to ON while the engine was running. The engine temperature was about 40c when i done this.

It continued to run for a few minutes then died out. Managed to start it back up but it cut out again seconds later.

What have i fucked this time round?

Not even attempted to bump it because i don't want to have to get a recovery truck again

Sell it and buy a YZF125R IMHO.

Come back to two strokes when you've got a shed full of spanners and know how to use them.

Fill the tank with another 5 litres, set it to 'ON' fuel tap wise and crank it with half choke no throttle until it fires.

Also, clean the plug. It's a 2 minute job.

I think you just ran out of petrol. It takes some time for the carburetor bowl to fill up. You can check there is petrol in the bowl by trying the carburetor bowl drain screw. DO NOT completely remove the drain screw, just loosen it, you should see fuel pouring out of the drainage of the carburetor bowl. If there is no fuel coming out of it, there is your issue.

Try starting bike, then remove spark plug and see if there is fuel on the plug.

Going to try putting in a new spark plug see if that sorts the problem.

But when removing the petrol tank i noticed something a bit strange.

3 Tubes are coming from the petrol tank. Only ONE of them is connected to the bike. The other 2 are just hanging from the tank.

I asked my mechanic and he said, yeah only 1 tube was connected when i first worked on the bike, no idea what the other 2 go to.

Is this right? surely all 3 tubes should be connected from the tank to the bike. Maybe this is causing my starting issue?

Appreciate any advice on this, because neither i or my mechanic have a clue what these other 2 tubes go to.

Fitted a new B9EG spark plug and its back up and running.

Two strokes can fuck up a spark plug in no time. Also it's quite common for a fouled plug to not work again after cleaning and gapping etc.

If you stay on two smokes, and learn how to fix them you'll in your wisdom never go out without a spare new plug under your seat.

I'd still sell it though in your position and get yourself on a nice R3 Yamaha or something, which will be a massively nicer bike to ride daily.
