As title.

Speculating getting another bike.

Wanted something which makes a bit of noise coming off the throttle.

Any suggestions of bikes under 1000cc?

Yeah... pretty much anything with a bit of horsepower and aftermarket exhaust will do.

If it's a carbed bike then run idle screw a touch rich.

If it's FI bike get it mapped just so.

Snap crackle and pop is generally helped along with a leaky link pipe joint, where some lovely fresh combustible air can get in on overrun and add to the bangy bang pop fizz.

I'd second the mt09 or tracer with an akra. The triumph triples will give you the same effect.

Anything with a leaky exhaust.

A royal enfield with a heavily carbon scored exhaust valve will make a noise fit to wake the dead on the overrun, take it from me.

You do know that crackling and popping on the overrun is a sign that the fuelling is off?

Is it unburnt fuel igniting in the pipe? ie running rich? (gen question) only I thought my slip on pipes would allow more airflow, carb bike and hence lean running?

The old Triumph 955i engines have secondary air injection, which basically allows clean air into the exhaust to burn off excess fuelling off throttle. All that crackle and pop is double green good for the environment.
No idea if they still use that system.

Oh, I have a similar system on my VTR.

It's the DLPG system. "Deteriorated Link Pipe Gasket" system. Quite cheap to install as well.

You need this:

Crackled and snarled at idle, screamed everywhere else. Not good for the nerves though.

My old z400j (or any carb'ed 4 stroke) with a loud pipe.... give it lots of revs, kill switch off and then back on.

You're welcome ! Thumbs Up

I am not responsible for this blowing the bejesus out of your exhaust or causing others to think something has blown up if you happen to do it in a tunnel

My Speed Triple with arrow cans does it. Pop crackle burble....

I also need to buy some baffles for them as they were removed when I got it and it's a tad loud.

Mine does it.
A couple of years back, I was convinced to go to Llandudno to visit the ancient copper mines.. these are situated at the top of the Gt Orm, a big hill, basically with just one road 'up'.. very up... between houses.
N-o-w.. imagine, trying to take directions from an i-phone junkie daughter on the bunny, relayed from son, in grannies car, when granny would probably get 'lost' given a military grade GPS and step-by-step sat-nav instructions to get from her front door to the bathroom!

SERIOUSLY.. I really aught to have learned the lesson on the numerous previous excursions into Wales with the woman.... the A5's a lovely bit of road, takes you all the way to the coast at Bangor... so heading to Criccieth five miles from there, you do NOT turn left at Shrewsbury... detour through the wilds of mid-wales, find the coast somewhere around Aberystwrith.. and then have the woman 'stop' and say, "Well, we've found the sea... it cant be FAR from here!"

Hmmmm.... snap-crackle-and-pop!!!!

It can be mildly amusing... occasionally..... after the sixth time riding down that same damn hill, cooking the back brake making a racket like a low budget re-enactment of the battle of edge hill.. it DOES get rather cringe worthy!

EAR-PLUGS! Or a decent exhaust is my recommend!

No help, no advice in my usual charitable way, but what you absolutely Don't want then is anything two stroke. They are very quiet bikes generally speaking compared to nearly any freely breathing four stroke.

Anyway anybody that is seriously considering what their next bike is solely based on the exhaust noise and how poppy and bangy it is, is a totally spasticated fucktard!
