Never had a reliability issue with the 1150GS I had. Doubt I will with the 1200GS.

Van monkey who recovered my Enfield recently (snapped throttle cable, such unreliable) reckoned that he had an 1100 or 1150, but wouldn't touch the 1200s as most of the bikes he picks up are modern BMWs.

I can't get on with anything even as leany-forwards as a CBR600F. Sure, you can train your body to deal with it, but <lip-plate.jpg>

Point stands, a 25 year old shouldn't be riding a GS. At your age you should be knee down everywhere and riding like a cock.

I went from a 950sm to a Daytona 675, and for my commute the 675 is quicker (only because I can filter through a smaller gap), but I agree the riding position takes some getting used to.

there are some roads where I do wish I still had flat bars though, as I think they're easier particularly when the road gets single track and tighter corners.

My 67 year old neighbor rides a Ninja 250 with open exhaust, dragging his knees in every corner, later this year fitting a turbo on it. Age doesn't determine who we are and what we like to do. Thumbs Up

When I asked him, why not to just get a bigger engine, he asked me where's the fun in that. The coolest pensioner I know. Cool

Lets be honest, most young people on motorcycles in general are autistic virgins. Girls are rarely impressed with motorcycles.

But is your average non-biker going to look at a GS and think "Wow, that looks more expensive than that colour 900mph sportsbike over there!"

I know before I knew anything about bikes that I would look at a sportsbike and think that that was where the money is at.

Agreed. I'm merely 67 so only just into my sports bike phase. When I'm old I may have to ease up a bit! Take care with the ageist comments though, andym, karma might have a nasty leaking pissbag in mind for you in your latter years! Wink

Yeah, you're right. But with GS your chances are ZERO.

OP IMHO Better buy Fiesta ST you mentioned for commuting (get laid) and keep CBR600RR for weekend fun.

Maybe take it to a track before dismissing it entirely.

You should have probably looked at a middle weight Street bike before going balls out super sports, Street Triple or MT would have been my suggestion.

Hopefully it's not completely put you off sportier bikes, as although the GS is good for a purpose, it can't stir the soul like a performance machine.

Hmm. Maybe I should stop asking the girls to help me with my helmet then.

To be fair, someone did strike up a conversation with me about my Daytona recently and that she was about to start a DAS course etc etc. I was thinking yeah, great, this is my chance. Then her boyfriend came over for a chat as well...Game over. Rolling Eyes

Pass the popcorn

Two things to take away from this thread:

1.) In my day 25 year olds would just ride the bike they wanted and not care if it was uncomfortable or awkward. If they didn't want a sportsbike they wouldn't buy one.

2.) In my day 25 year olds wouldn't give in to peer pressure (at least not as obviously).

25 year olds these days are a pretty weak breed if this is a representative sample.

I love commuting on my zx9r

For a while I was doing 260 miles a day on mine and had no real comfort problems at all, apart from a numb bum and the feeling that my hands were still vibrating an hour later. Had the right balance to make the trip enjoyable IMHO.

Unfortunately it lost compression on one piston (looks like piston ring failure but I haven't had the chance to strip it yet) and I now do it when needed on an FJR instead. A bit less fun, but more practical I guess.

Going to fix the 9R and possibly sell it for a new toy Smile

It's okay though, I'm 26 tomorrow so I will grow a damn spine and buy that H2R I've always wanted Mr. Green

The question remains...

Why the heck didn't you buy a Street Triple? Comfort and riding position of a naked, with the power, brakes, weight and handling of a supersport.

That is a bike that a 25 year old should be proud to own.
