Richa "Rain Warrior", around £20 from plenty of UK retailers.

The problem Ive found with all these cheap generic waterproof overtrousers is that they have pocket slits for access to your pockets whilst out walking... whilst you're stood up walking, its fine because theyre held mostly closed by the positioning of your leg, but when you sit on your bike and have your legs in the bike position, those pocket slits are wiiiiiide open and all the water running off your jacket runs down nicely into them and soaks you anyway.

Either look for some that dont have pocket slits, or have a look at the slightly more expensive stuff designed for bikes.

These. Magic word = goretex.

Also zippy legs (funky waterproof zips) to let you put them on without taking boots off.

^^^^ this. No point messing about with other stuff when you can get goretex so inexpensively (as long as you don't mind the cammo look - but frankly, if you're dry, who cares how you look?).

I use something similar to these - they were about 15-20 quid.

Rolls up small and easy to put on over boots if the rain starts suddenly . 👍

Have a search on eBay for the blue RAF version of the Goretex trousers if you don't want the camo ones.

I've been in many of a torrential downpour and they've never let me down.

In the past I've used Aldi/Lidl cycling ones in the largest available size.
For simple, cheap and packing small they worked well.
Use a plastic bag over your boot when you slide your foot in, makes getting any waterproofs on a lot easier (unless they have a leg length zip!).

+10 for the ex army ones. I paid about the same for mine and they're fantastic at keeping water out. Thumbs Up

Keep a spare bit of string or something and you can fold and roll them up very small

I had the same issues with the cheaper hiking ones, always end up looking like you've pissed yourself.

Bought a pair of spidi or spade or something, paid a bit more but they seem to be holding up, if they fail then I'm going to try the army ones Thumbs Up

Another option is the flexothane ones favoured by farmers.
These are slightly stretchy which makes them easier to get on and not too flappy.
They roll up particularly small and are designed as workwear so not easy to tear - and last almost indefinitely for occasional use if caught out.

One piece every time. No bloody 'bike' gear stays waterproof for long and the rain always finds a way in. A one-piece lets you ride through monsoons, I should know, I live in Manchester!
