https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201708178414631?fuel-type=Diesel&advertising-location=at_cars&make=MERCEDES-BENZ&onesearchad=Used&postcode=fy83nw&price-to=3000&model=C%20CLASS&sort=sponsored&radius=60&page=5

Looking for a cheap comfy commuter. Not looking for alternative suggestions just any red flags or quibbles as buying second hand is always a bit dodgy.

Cheers

Don't know much about Merc's, but i have found this guys reviews helpfull in the past when looking at buying cars

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/mercedes-benz/c-class-sport-coupe-2001/

Has a useful section of "Good & Bad" and what not

Buy cheap though, i assume you also want a car cheap to run/maintain, not sure Merc's fall into that category

Eh, it's a mid-2000 Merc. It'll be built down to a budget, but it doesn't look like the Tin Worm has got to it yet.

MOT history looks legit, but the front suspension links keep going on it, and I'd question why they're not putting it through an MOT. I'd want an independent one done before I threw that much at it.

Cheers for the advice. Ive done a hpi check all comes back good, MOT history does look fine theres no dodgy mileage anywhere. The ball join does seem to crop up on a few of them but I think with the money saved (ive got it for £2500 ) ill put it throught a quick servie and get it checked.

They're happy to lose £800 off the asking price but baulked at paying £30 to MOT it, you say?

I'd want to have it independently inspected before handing a penny to the dealer. If they get shirty about that, run for the hills.

Deffo not cheap.

Why have the wheels been blacked out?
Why don't the front seats match the rears?

That car has been got at, avoid.

It's a 2.0 diesel manual Mercedes 'compact coupe' thing. There are no positives.

Mercedes can't make or install a decent manual box. The 2.0 diesel is wheezy, and it's in a car that has some sporty pretensions even if it isn't actually a sports car. Also, the coupe-ness of it is far too 'kept woman' for any sane person to actually consider.

I reiterate, I can see no positives there.

But it's "Truly AMZING" and has the optional ashtray. I'd buy it just for the optional ashtray.

Someone has tried to make it 'look' like it's a higher spec. Leather front seats, cloth rear. Blacked out alloys. Interior looking very tired on such a 'low mileage' car?

Dealer with mobiles only. Fuck that!

"It's gearbox has just shit itself over the road? No mate, not in business any more!"

Way too dodgy. Looks shit. Is shit. Kill it. With fire!

Always saw the C class as a low-end peroxide blonde WAGs motor. Perhaps that's why the front seats were replaced with leather? Too much fake tan rubbed off on the cloth ones!

Near to me, so probably not much help.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201706276825682?radius=30&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&fuel-type=Diesel&model=FOCUS&maximum-mileage=70000&price-from=2000&postcode=da82hf&sort=sponsored&price-to=3000&advertising-location=at_cars&make=FORD&page=1

Sporty and £2,500 is risky as every ned under the sun will have ragged it.

Why would anyone want to drop multiple thousands on a diesel, in the current climate?

In the face of an imminent National (Global) ban, values are already starting to slide and in the next 12-18 months, will go into total freefall.

I wouldn't pay any more than I could afford to literally throw away on a diesel, any minute now you won't be able to give them away (and don't rely on a scrapage scheme, the government aren't keen on that idea).

Ash, mate all your gonna get on here is anti diesel, anti Mercedes-Benz, anti coupe, anti automatic transmission, anti leather interior and everyone's dislikes with your choice etc.

Marjay summed the above up well, (reads your post and then shouts how much hate he has for everything Mercedes etc) I bet he will try and convince you though why his BMW is such a good car/buy though.

People all want to big up what they own and why their car buying decision or vehicle was a great choice, massive bargain, or is a vastly better car than every review says etc.

Some like Shaft, do make a good point about being careful dropping decent money (to some 2.5k is very decent money for a daily car) on a used Diesel. Sure there's negative points about buying a Diesel, but theres still and will always in the ICE age be good reasons and situations to have a diesel car if it suits your needs, use and where you want to drive it etc. Some people in this anti diesel fad we are having, don't get that petrol engines can't do everything as well especially in large engine sizes and in large vehicles that do a ton of miles etc. Put simply petrol isn't good enough or a viable option in some cars or vehicles.

Anyway, I agree to avoid that car too. You want nothing in an Advert that makes you think why? It should only read good stuff, as there's plenty of cars where ads sound good and only positive too. You get a good/bad feeling with Ad's and unless your in the trade or want a resto project, you don't want to read or consider anything with negative vibes.

Oh and my own personal suggestion, without knowing your needs or use requirements would be buy a cheap little petrol hatchback that's basic and tidy.

Use that and spend all your spare change on the STI instead! Wink

Probably by activating the hand release for the parking brake... with a hand.
It's almost like the Germans have done something logical there.
