To be fair there’s probably a healthy dosage of sewage in it, not to mention strong currents and possibly electrical surges in parts.

Also it’s mostly young kids and elderly being “rescued”

What the hell kind of logic is that to tie dogs up if they know a flood is coming? Could at least let them go if you just want rid of them, at least they'll have a slight higher chance.

Photographer won a Pulitzer prize for that image, then killed himself not long later.

According to his mate who went with him, it wasn't as heartless a situation as people have decided to believe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Carter#Alternative_version_of_events

It's highly diluted. The exceptions being faeces and anything in your own home. You could do a decent job of cleaning the water in your house by chucking a litre of bleach into it every day, assuming you have a lot of bottles on hand (unlikely).

Obviously, it depends how close you are to the source, but a lot of items can't be diluted, like bacteria, disease, debris such as hypodermic needles and other medical waste etc... Personally I wouldn't want to be wading around in the stuff, mpd72 seems to think it's the equivalent of a day at the beach (I suppose in some places like Blackpool it is Dance! ), guessing he's never experienced a catastrophic natural disaster first hand though Rolling Eyes

Mayor to Houston's illegals: "If you are in a stressful situation, I don't care who you are, I don't care what your religion is, I don't care what your language is, you come and take advantage of every service that we have. If you need help and someone comes and they require help, and then for some reason, somebody tries to deport them, I will represent them myself, OK?".

What, all 600,000 of them?

A cleansing, a cleansing.

Hey, I was just pointing out that the news footage shows people being "rescued" by other people, quite capable of pushing a flat bottomed boat in knee high water.

I'm guessing you've never had the experience of unblocking a sewer first hand Rolling Eyes

Most of the rescues seem to be young children, elderly or animals...

Also, slight difference walking a couple of feet in flood water to or around a boat than walking for miles in it.

A lot of the people pushing the boats in the footage I've seen, appear to be local volunteers, not rescue crew. They certainly weren't dressed any better for it than the people in the boats.

Maybe I'm not understanding the scale of it? I wonder how far it is to dry land for most?

Not that far. Certainly not miles or anything like that. Flooding tends to be limited to the more low lying areas and floodplains. It's not as if the whole city is flooded or anything like that. Most people could quite easily walk out.

Here's an interactive map. Move the slider left and right.

There are 500,000 properties in Dallas, you've shown a picture of ~40 of them and then declared that I'm wrong and that the entire city is flooded. If you follow the link I provided above, it shows a map of where the flooding is.
