Hi all,

Wondering if anyone knows what causes an oil like gunk buildup on the (I think) cylinder head casing? - see photo.
I viewed the bike yesterday and that was the only thing that raised an eyebrow.
Many thanks!

All the gaskets are leaking and it's going to seize, prolapsing your anus with the broken con-rod.

Yea, i did! Saw them both yesterday but that was the only thing I spotted really on that. The other only had a bit of paintwork around the handlebar so nothing mechanical! wanted to check!

It might have a slightly leaky base gasket, but it probably still runs fine and I doubt you'll notice a difference on such a small bike.

I'd say leaking Cam cover gasket, use it to haggle. On a bike like that it'll probably cost £10-20 and take about 30 minutes to replace.

Or it could just be general grime caught up with the inevitable WD40 or ACF50 that has been sprayed on and around the engine. An air-cooled barrel is a pain in the arse to clean properly, in that you need to use something other than a sponge to do it.

Small oil leaks are common with CBF125s -- they are not built to last -- but you don't know how bad the leak is until you've owned it for a while.

Given that, the bike has very recently had a scrub, so you can only assume it's worse than it looks.

Avoid Thumbs Down

How many miles, how many owners, how much money? Let's say best case scenario - under 10k miles, one old guy owner, £750. Wouldn't bother me because it looks like fuck all to my eye and also I've run a Honda 125 that wept oil from that area for a few years and nothing happened. Worst case - 30k miles, 10 owners, £1500 - all previous owners novices with no mechanical sympathy. Do not buy.
