Of 1 side of the bank) wasnt sealing 100% , so I've flipped them over . Seem a bit better, But can't see this being the cause ?
I've also just looked at the price of starter motors
There like 100 plus !

Hi,
I have found, the once the thin, brittle reeds get damaged, it'll never run right again.
Replace with a decent c/f set. No need to go all big brand expensive (like v3 or v-force or whatever they're called) I went with the ones Alain (bcf resident nsr guru) recommended, on both my jc22's.
starter motor is common weak point (along with most of the electrics tbf) but they can be refurbished.....but depends on what condition it's in.....open it up (starter motor) & have a look?
Won't do any harm, especially if you've prepared yourself for coughing up 130 quid they cost to replace.
Sorry, not actually helping much am I?.......al get ma coat.....

cheers,
GAZ

Take it out and check it turns over when connected straight to the battery. I had shitty corroded wiring in the last few inches of the starter motor cable which acted like a high resistance drop that just made the solenoid click.

If it is the motor, it's likely just the brushes, which should be cheap enough to replace, if that is what it needs. The commutator might just need cleaning and any carbon dust blowing out.

Right
Took the start motor out
Had it apart , replaced the brushes and it now works
, after swapping the reeds round it started then cut out but starts more often now than before
Then cuts out
So I'm assuming reeds ?
Fucking thing

Hi,
Alains. French nsr dude.
Wrote a very helpful guide ("nsr tips") which I recommend every nsr owner download.
He's a member on here & tbh, I'm surprised he hasn't posted/replied sooner, he usually does.

cheers,

Mak sure you get that new reed tested before spending more monies.
Without it sealing you will be losing pressure in the crank case and it will mess up the flow through the engine/ports causing who knows how much trouble...

Irregular spark could be coil, ht lead, cdi etc.

Get a multi meter in there to get an idea of whats going on where...
Have only really played with the charging side so can't be of much use tbh but I would expect resistance on HT lead, check for impulse from cable going to coil, resistance through coil?

Update
Changed stator and pickup , Cdi and plug
It ran well for the 1st 30 seconds or so then died , as if the kill switch was pressed.
Now starts more easily but hasn't solved the problem
I've now got a doner engine
I'm thinking I'll just chuck that in and give it a go ?

Out of ideas
The reefs did fuck alll

How will replacing the mechanical parts fix an electrical problem?
