Just wondering if anybody has ever tried kick starting a bike engine by using the bolt on the end of the alternator.

It would mean using a separate take-away kickstart lever, a bit like the Goldwing idea. Ratchet and socket?

It could be a nice failsafe option for when the battery's buggered and there's no kicker.

Personally I'm still trying to figure out how to fit a pull start just for shits and grins for when people are watching.

Unless you've got a slipper clutch; the answer is 'bump start'.

(Yes, I appreciate you like looking for solutions to things that aren't a problem.)

You've seen a bike that was started by turning the end of the crank cirectly. It's how Osla stared his diesel bike.

So. What you need is a MOTHERFUCKING STARTING HANDLE because kickstarts are too mainstream!

Some starting handles have a built-in ratchet (whacker plates/gennys). Others engage on a tapered key so the handle pops off the end of the crank when tthe engine goes faster than you're turning it.

Remember, thumbs outside the handle!

Or how about a rope start? You could fit a pully to the end of the crank and start the bike by wrapping a length of rope around it and pulling it like an outboard.

Some of the chaps at the track who have the direct drive karts (TKM's) would start the kart on a stand by wrapping a strap around one of the rear wheels.

always looked silly dangerous to me.

How about a spring start, like that on the Honda Express?
