Tbh, speaking personally A half decent camera, and ability to install whatsapp app is all I ask from a smartphone.
My last one was about £90 brand new. HTC something or other.

My Oneplus 5 cost me £500 but I tend to keep my phones until they give up or 5 years go by so, if it lasts as long as my Nexus 4, I'll be happy.

Deal breaker for me, and changes to iOS I'm not fond of.

My Sony xperia Z2 must be 5 years old now and still going although the battery won't last a day now.

Still, when it dies I have the wifies ex Samsung S5 to move on to as she has upgraded to an S7.

I like free phones. Dance!

Oh, and the S5 has a removable battery so even better!

The headphone thing is annoying. They do bundle a lightning to 3.5mm jack and you can buy splitter cables but it is an annoyance on the 7 that I have.

I will probably upgrade to the 'X' but probably won't upgrade passed it for a while.

I had a Motorola years ago that had an combined charging/headphone port (mini usb back then), and I had to use an adaptor. It was shit then and it's shit now (means you can't charge it and listen to stuff) Smile

I agree it's a bit of a pain, there are splitters for the lightning port to go 2/1 so you can charge and listen to music at the same time. Still that's not a particularly good solution when they could just include the damn 3.5mm port.

The new ones have wireless charging so you could lay it on the pad and listen to music... still they could just include the damn 3.5mm port.

But using apple car play in my car is always more reliable than my wife's android auto which randomly disconnects and I can sync with iPad etc etc so worth sticking with apple for me.

You know they can't do much more with smartphones when they're advertising turning your face into a moving emoji poop is a feature.

I think smartphones have got to the point where you don't need more power so there's little point in upgrading. My phone died the other day and I bought a new S5 for £190, it does everything I need it to and much more.

Guess this is what happens when Moore's law starts coming to an end.

The worst thing Apple have done is stop production of the Ipod Classic.

I can't seem to find anything similar: Big hard-drive, big battery life and no extra features like connectivity that just wastes battery.

A 200gb microSD card should fix that. Wink

I have to agree, still got my 80gb one but it doesn't like being used when connected to the bike sound system, I have a solid state one for that.

Thank you Triumph, for making the controls/display ipod compatible and not standard mp3 player though Evil or Very Mad

In a phone you mean? Or are there music players that specifically take SD cards?

I have a Windows phone, so naturally after 3 years of ownership I still get 2 days battery life with normal usage, but listening to music on it would kill it in a matter of hours.

I love my Ipod classic because in its prime, it would last me a good week or two depending on levels of daily usage. These days it barely gets to the end of the week (Still good IMO, considering i've had this one for around 4 years).

There's loads of dedicated music players, most have sd slots also, whack a 128gb card in and away you go? Can probably nab a basic no thrills one with long battery for less than 50 squids

With the screen off? Eh? One thing I miss about my iPhone is that I could listen to stuff on youtube with the screen off (and control it from the lock screen).

Can still find loads on ebay, they hold their values fairly well as do most mac products it seems. The older mac stuff I completely understand as the hardware is pretty indestructable and it's all upgradable, but the newer "disposable" mac stuff... they should not be those prices.

I was tempted to grab an old ipod shuffle for £10-20 tbh, handy little things

They still sell the iphone 6, tbh if my phone died today that is probably what I would get. I need my headphone jack goddamnit. If they think I am screwing around with chargers and dongles just so that I can listen to music on a 13 hr flight they are sadly mistaken.

I don't give a crap how "convenient" wireless headphones are. Until they can last a full 13 hrs I have zero interest.
