Any time I take either wheel off I always grease up anything that needs it... my bearings are sealed though, but I had a couple of mm movement on my front wheel last year which I just assumed was the bearings on the way out... the bike didn't handle any different though as the 1000 mile+ ride over the weekend proved..... but replacing them sorted the problem anyway

When I bought my 125 many many years ago all the rear wheel spokes where loose and 3 had snapped.... the back end of that was all over the place until I got over 30 then I didn't notice it.... that was just a couple of miles for a test ride though

Fcuked bearing can easily be caused by the roads you ride on. Pot-holes and generally poor rough surfaces will wear out bearings just through constant shock/spike loads.

Note for Hooligans: Doing too many Wheelies and Stoppies is also bad.
Although any sort of showing off on a bike in front of School age girls or fit wimin for that matter is Every Sort of Cool. Cool

Doing it in front of your mates is The Ghey Way. Embarassed

I'm gonna change mine this winter. They are cheap (SKF for both wheels £25) and it's an easy job.

As for the wheel on the picture in OP's post.. it looks fked to me. Personally I wouldn't use it again.

I keep spare bearings in the shed ready for any occasion, like when I go away for a weekend of dirt biking. The other year I took spare wheel bearings for my KTM and a friend needed them more than I did.It saved time faffing about trying to find bearings on a Sunday morning and he was able to race Thumbs Up
