Who else thinks North Korea is just doing the right thing?

I think Kim Jong Un and his regime are just doing what any country under threat would do. Using American language, NK has just drawn a line in the sand and equipped itself with a big stick.

Cool Thumbs Up

I'm fairly certain the only reason Kim and co are still around making bold threats is due to the fact that he has every bit of artillery he has pointed at South Korea.
A strike on NK would need to swift and total which would mean moving a shit ton of military resources into region, NK would see this before they got in range and would open fire on the south killing hundreds of thousands if not millions.

It's all shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits...

At the end of the day, the only people with much to lose are the South Koreans. Feel pretty sorry for them at the present moment.

The US don't want NK "liberated" it would cost a fortune and think of the arms sales the US would lose.

The right thing to preserve their vile, murderous, despotic and truly evil socialist (but I repeat myself) regime?

Sure, spot on. Previous US presnits have made it absolutely clear what happens to naughty little dictators who don't achieve nukular capability.

North Korea is a perfect point for the US to ideologically tether itself to as their 'problem' in the far east. It's the only way they can maintain an aggressive presence in the region without truly pissing off their real target, which is China.

Stuff like this is utterly laughable:

https://rack.0.mshcdn.com/media/ZgkyMDEzLzA0LzA1LzQ2L25vcnRoa29yZWFtLmUwYTE2LmpwZwpwCXRodW1iCTEyMDB4OTYwMD4/e88a0ba8/c93/north-korea-missile-range.jpg

Clutching at straws, really. NK might have missiles which could just about hit Alaska.

Let's ignore the fact that a conventional Navy could carry those missiles to a mid-Pacific launch location with relative ease, and let's instead show only the firing range of those missiles when launched from mainland NK, because that makes the country look more aggressive, red-handed pulling the trigger! An enemy!

It's all total nonsense.

Indeed, US needs to bluster around South China Sea... lets not forgot only a year or two ago it was on the verge of going shooty with China VS literally everybody else (and my money would have been on the Middle Kingdom).

Nice to see Russia has quietened down a bit at least.

Question is... what happens in 2020. The US just hit its debt ceiling again, raised again. The Fed has admitted it printed too much money and is going to start removing some from circulation. Stock market and housing market are overpumped. 90% of their tax debt disappears instantly on commitments (including interest)
... And in 2020 social security can no longer lend them any more money... because broke.

Gonna get pretty shitty for them unless they start stabilising some regimes for cash. They would struggle to pillage N.Korea under China's nose though, so it isn't really wise.

As Scroobius Pip said though, if we're stopping tyrants why the fuck aint we in North Korea.

Perhaps they finally are doing their world police role, for the good of the kittens? Thinking

North Korea, or rather Kim, does only what's in his best interest. He saw what happened to Saddam Hussein, Muammar Kaddáfí and other dictators, when their dictatorships fallen. As long as he's a dictator, he's safe.

Absolutely, the West is corrupt and hypocritical. You should move to NK.

What I don't get is that if the US did Nuke North Korea, then presumably the fallout wouldn't do South Korea much good, as it's kinda close...

Exactly, Kim's just winding up Trump, and so far he's doing a good job!

The Japanese may disagree when he keeps firing missiles over their country.

He's hardly showing his defence, he's showing his ability to be an aggressor. A move which will eventually bite him in the arse.

It's actually so scary to see flying missiles over our heads these days!
Not sure if it's possible to shoot them down. And it's so scary thinking about them drop on our nuclear power plant (intentionally or not) Sick

Yes but it's just as dangerous Kim pushing Trumps buttons as it is Trump pushing Kims.

As I said in another topic North Korea are the mouthy little chav trying to start a fight in a nightclub, the danger comes from when/if the big boys get involved. The US can't 'bring democracy' to North Korea so any military intervention will result in all out conflict.

That would be much funnier if it was a 3-way conversation including a guy called John.

What, that rocket propelled missile-shaped object that landed in the sea with a splash?

One missile-shaped flying object doesn't really mean much.

People in the far east should be more concerned about the number of American bases over there. Oh but no missiles fly out of them so they're completely benign.

NK violence is a joke because any real hostile action would signal the end of their nation in a heartbeat. Everything they do is clearly defensive. In all the time I spent over in South Korea, there was never any big concern about war, and having a shared language with NK means they sure as hell know better than we do about the regime. The only thing South Koreans want is unification. Some of them cross the border every day to work and do business already. Only western media makes out like NK is such a global menace. I wonder why.

EDIT:

Just seen an interesting Quora response to the question, "How close are we to war with North Korea?" - by a bloke whose dad was a US ambassador to the UN with a focus on nuclear nonproliferation.

TL;DR: Not that close to war, but everyone's getting a bit tetchy, and the reason it's got this way is because the US is running out of options for getting what it wants.
