Ive done something to my shoulder. I think I may have knackered it with too vigorous a morning stretch.

It hurts from a point at the top of the oytside of my arm and about half way down the upper arm also on the outside. This happens if I tense my upper arm (such as a morning stretch) or try to raise my arm out to my side and above the level of my shoulder. Its worse if im also bending the arm back a bit as well such as the movement you would make if sat in a car and reaching around the back of the adjacent seat.

Its a sharp pain that can last for twenty seconds or so. Wierdly the movement when reaching across my chest to get into an inside pocket is also uncomfortable but this movement doesn't result in the same level of pain.

In B4 wnkng injury etc. Its the wrong arm.

You've Wracked yer sel.

It will be helped by an orthopaedic massage. Since it's not your working arm I suggest paying the extra few quid for the Happy Ending..

Have you ever fell off a powered two wheeler?

Don't ignore it as it could be a tendon or ligament that has slipped out of location and it is pressing a bit it shouldn't.

An Ortho masssgerrist should be able to handle it or suggest a trip to the 'ospital.

It's important to stay limber and stretch yourself.

You could try doing an honest day's work for a change.

It's either a heart attack or a shoulder impingement/bursitis.

Try applying cold directly to the sore bit and taking some ibuprofen. Or try diclofenac rub.

If you wake up dead, it wasn't the shoulder.

This forum needs an 'optimistic' rating.

That's a rotator cuff injury, almost certainly. Says the man who had surgery for a serious one a couple of months back and is still not back in the saddle Sad

Worth seeing a GP I'd say. Mine was a complete rupture (doesn't sound like yours is), and delaying getting medical attention unfortunately made the optimum surgical repair impossible to carry out (no longer possible to yank the broken end back into position). I'm sure a programme of physio would help you (as it currently is with me)

Spoke to State Quack. Yup its very likely inflammation in the rotor cuff. So 600mg Ibuprofen a day for two weeks and if no improvement then back to the Quack.

The ibuprofen gels seem to work quite well.
I've found taking Ibuprofen for more than 2 or 3 days can have some side effects, and hard to get off them if you need them for a coupe of weeks or more.

The fuck are you taking half doses for?

Adult dose of Ibuprofen is 400mg TDS (3 times daily) making a grand total of 1200mg or 1.2g daily...

christ! and we wonder why the NHS is under strain when people cant even take OTC medications correctly!

Good, hopefully that's all it is and it should be reversible (lucky for some!)

The important thing is to take them on a full stomach, especially if you have a history of gastric problems or are getting on a bit in years.

I think the 600mg per day is because its for the two week period. So quite a prolonged period of use.

British National Formulary wrote:

Adult

Initially 300–400 mg 3–4 times a day; increased if necessary up to 600 mg 4 times a day; maintenance 200–400 mg 3 times a day, may be adequate.

A reliable clinical study wrote:

Although it is not definitely known whether Ibuprofen tablets causes less peptic ulceration than aspirin, in one study involving 885 patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated for up to one year, there were no reports of gastric ulceration with Ibuprofen tablets whereas frank ulceration was reported in 13 patients in the aspirin group (statistically significant p<0.001).

Conclusion - There's no reason for an otherwise fit and healthy person to be taking half doses of ibuprofen for a rotator cuff injury

Very Happy Thumbs Up HTH

I'm a 'brufen fan too. WHereas I felt distinctly ill after using even topical diclofenac.

Do not underestimate the effectiveness of cold. Get a gel pack whacked on there. I had a shoulder bursitis recently and it was the cold that made the difference.

OR
2) Dick-low-fen-ack
