Hello all,

Been lurking here for a few weeks since i got fed up sitting in traffic.

Rode an MZ S50B and then Suzuki GP100 on L plates over 30 years ago.

CBT done 20 Sept 2017

Passed Theory today 29 Sept

Mods one and two training and tests booked

If I dont cock it up I could have a full license by 8 Nov!

Finding this Forum useful

Just wanted to introduce myself

Tim

I'm not sure if we can have another Tim here as we've already got Best Tim and Worst Tim so I don't know where that leaves you. Confused Razz

I'd say New Tim, but he's Old. How confusing would that be?

Sorry, chap, you're going to have to change your name.

Best of luck with the tests, regardless of what name you take them under. There's a lot of flap and fuss about them, but they're really not that hard.

Mod 1 is over before you know it, and Mod 2 is just a nice ride out. It doesn't matter where you go, as long as you go there confidently and carefully.

Do you have a bike in mind for when you're licensed up?

I'm going with Timberly as he's clearly going through a transition.
Best of British with the tests.
Do you have post test bike in mind or are we going to have another what bike thread?

Thanks for the welcomes

Ahem! Ive been called Big Tim in the past ;)

Regarding a Bike: Something 500/600 cc ish, not worried about looks or age, I'm quite good mechanically so can do most of my own maintenance etc if needed, i'm thinking something that i can filter on but with enough power to get out of trouble if needed, but i'm 6'2 and 17 stone so thinking something Tall (the 125 i used on CBT played havoc with my hip, too low) I'm 52.

I'll need to sit on a few bikes and see how they feel

Tim

Kawasaki Versys would be my recommendation for a "back to bikes" bike for a big chap like you.
The 650 engine is straight out of the ER6f/Z650 with respectable but manageable performance and good fuel economy.

Good shout, or a V-Strom 650. Depending on budget, Tigers would be in the running. I don't think there are any really bad "adventure" stylee bikes made in the past decade out there, unless you buy a boomerang R1200GS that needs recalls more often than refills.

I'm a similar height, weight and only a couple of years younger. Also get occasional back problems, not caused by my bike I hasten to add. Knees ache now and then on the bike but only after a fair few hours solid riding.
S-S-Street Triple. Sure, there are more comfortable bikes but....

Hi Tim, firstly good luck with the mods.

Re finding a suitable bike, this site https://cycle-ergo.com/ is really useful. basically you put your height in, the model of the bike, and your preferred seating position. It will then show you the posture you would have on said bike with feet up or down.

Have fun Wink

Another vote for a V-Strom. Had a 650 before I decided I'd like a naked IL4. Upright, very comfy seat, great view of the road, easy to handle and will be very kind to your hip and also very economical. Thumbs Up

Good luck with the tests!

And another one here!
I'm also pretty old and stiff and my V-Strom (first bike after a 30-year lay-off) suits me very well.

Of course you could get a nice big comfortable tourer like my Trophy. The heated seats are a real luxury for those aching bones when it gets cold and wet. Cool

Not that I have any intention of riding my bike when it is cold and wet Embarassed

Welcome back to bikes

6ft 4 and17 stone Embarassed though slightly younger at 46

Currently riding a Yamaha xj6na with no problems fit wise very forgiving and IMO with enough oomph for fun if that's your thing

Though others may disagree 77hp is enough to start with

Failed Mod 1!!

Was faultless on the slalom etc which i'd been concerned about then went too fast 69K!! through cones on emergency stop and back wheel lifted.

re-booked for 31 Oct.

Loving the training on MT07, although bit small for me.

Yes i'm a tool!
