Was faultless on the slalom etc which i'd been concerned about then went too fast 69K!! through cones on emergency stop and back wheel lifted.

Loving the training on MT07, although bit small for me.

Helloooo!

apparently back wheel came up half a metre! made the examiner smile anyway.

obviously looking around to see what bikes are available.

seen some 1995 - 2003 bikes with low mileage 14K - 35K, seen some 2007 bikes with 40K on them. what would you say is too high a mileage for a bike? OR too old a bike, for example my car is 14 years old and done 110K and its considered barely run in (TDI).

presumably the service history is more important.

At the moment my thoughts are buy a second hand bike from a dealer, I'm thinking a reputable dealer will ensure the bike is safe and everything is as it should be and then I can keep it to that standard. I'm a fairly competent home mechanic.

As opposed to buying privately and then having to hope its all OK and fix any problems as they arise. but I'm unfamiliar with bikes, so would be having to learn from my mistakes, preferably NOT from a hospital bed if I get it wrong.

cheers

It's a lovely thought, but in practice what happens is a bucket and sponge job and straight back out the door.

To some degree, that may depend on where you live/commute .. If you intend to commute into the London ULEZ then, you need to get a relatively new bike, has to be no older than 2007 (Euro 3) by 2020 (possibly 2019) if that friendly Mr Khan gets his way !! Otherwise, you'll be paying £12.50 for the privilege of riding in the ULEZ.

Current condition is important. I wouldn't trust anyone else's word on it if they have any vested interest in selling you the bike.

Having an independent MOT done is probably the cheapest way to buy some minimal peace of mind. I'd treat a dealer or dealer's-mate MOT as being for novelty purposes only.

Older bikes with low mileage might have been sat for a while (which's always bad), unless its had a long time owner who does 500 miles a year or something.

Generally I see 30k for bikes as 100k for a car, beyond then they go a bit quiet with regards to servicing. Personally I go for low mileage/low owner bikes (and cars), and no I don't buy from dealers. You might as well take £500 out of your pocket and set it on fire.

Have been to look in a few showrooms to sit on bikes etc.

Passed Mod 1 yesterday, managed to keep both wheels on the ground this time, had to redo avoidance as too slow on 1st attempt.

Commence Mod 2 training this Sunday, Test is Tuesday PM

Nice one, that's the daft hoop jumping out of the way. Mod 2 is just a nice ride around.

Nice one, had the same thing happen on my test, it's a bit nerve wracking knowing it's your final chance and all that stands between you and your pass certificate. Also it's surprisingly tight, I went about as fast as I felt comfortable going and was only just above the required speed.

As Mr Borg says now it's just a ride around with a 'mate' following you (and talking in your ear). I actually really enjoyed my Mod 2.

If you made it there, why couldn't the test go ahead? Pansies. Mad

Weather and road conditions on the day I passed my Mod 2 - ACTUAL SIZE.

However, you do realise that you blabbed that you weren't DRESSEDE for the RIDE in the New Bikers section, so a pox on you for the Teffing that we are about to receive.

When my daughter turned up for her (car) test, she was told it was cancelled because the previous candidate had been so bad that the examiner was traumatised. Really Rolling Eyes

Rogerborg

I'll rephrase it, My new riding gear, Jacket and over trouser complete with armour, swedish i think? kept me mostly dry BUT when stood in Waiting room took gloves off and it felt like tons off water dripping out of sleeves, my Goretex gloves and boots worked fine.

rain was torrential.

If wasnt practising for my test we'd have parked up and let it pass, but just having one last practise 30 mins before test due start.

Still gutted!

Passed my Mod 2 today with no faults

About 10 minutes was sat in traffic jam, felt relaxed all way through it. as you said just a ride around town.

some dickhead did his best to put me off by pulling into offside lane to park against the traffic, changed his mind pulled out and drove down road a bit more pulled in again 3 times in all.

great day though

Well chuffed

Thought best not filter as examiner in car! had to pull over and wait for him at one point.

can't get over how relaxed the whole think felt.

I don't recall actually thinking I've got to ride properly, I just rode the bike, and then the zero faults was icing on the cake.

I'm still smiling now

Always. Not standard practice but happens from time to time. My examiner followed me in a car. I filtered and pissed off into the distance.

See my post above. When I showed up in the tail end of a blizzard for my 2nd go at mod 2, the examiner was "Uh, are you sure you want the test to go ahead? Really sure?", then he carred it.

Fair weather Pan Euro foggits. Whistle

Got myself a bike!

Honda CBF 1000, 2011, 3000 miles, matching top box and panniers, years mot and a brand new tyre. service history, from a dealer but I'm very happy with the bike and service received.

Picked it up last Friday, just before weather turned bad. Drove it home, got carried away! suddenly realised fuel gauge gone into red and not knowing there was still 4L in tank filled up at nearest petrol station.

Kid with a new toy! not been out on it since, our road is compacted snow at moment. may have to ring in sick when weather warms up.

I know some of you won't agree with dealers or even bike choice but I'm chuffed.

Cheers all

Tim
