I do like the Pan, great bike but didn't consider it due to the increased running costs.

Also everyone keep in mind the OP needs a 2008 or later bike due to upcoming emissions charges in London.

And as the OP says, he's not the biggest bloke and doesn't want anything too lumpy - going from an ER6 to a Pan or FJR, could be a step too far.

But, to be fair, you could do that in an hour on a fireblade!

I like the fact drivers and others can hear me coming on a bike, a silent electric bike has always worried me from an accident point of view.

An electric bike!.

Running costs way lower than a standard bike as no servicing costs, only consumables like tyres and brake pads, plus no worries about riding it in LEZ's.

If you have parking where you could charge it at home and work then you would not need to worry about battery life.

Would probably be a lot cheaper buying a new one on 5 years finance than running a petrol bike over that period, plus you can get goverment grant's to help reduce the cost.

It would easily do 75 miles each way on a charge if you did not thrash it.

Just a little something to think about.

bit of a problem if yo get called out on a family emergency though and find bike not charged

A good point. Lozzy has stolen my NT700 as she finds it comfortable and relatively easy to handle and she is only 5'4".

Have you looked at the MT-07 Tracer?

Got the grunt of the twin MT-07 but also the touring capability.

I think you can get one for £7k.

Took a test ride on an FJR today, felt too big for me in the London traffic.
Deauville test ride tomorrow. I found a cheap one which looks tatty but seems to have been serviced methodically (clutch completely replaced at last service, tyres new)

What electric bike models are out there and how much do they cost?

Looked at the Tracer 900 , which seemed expensive but very good.
Tracer 700 comfy enough for daily 150 miles round trip?
I haven't test ridden one as yet.

Last time I saw you, you were on a red 650 - is the 700 worth the extra dolla?

Simply based on maintenance(belt) and mpg for your high mileage I would go for BMW F800ST.

Having said that you just need to prepare and have some alternative option for commute in winter for at least one day a week. Unless you want to start hating motorcycles soon Laughing

I'm keeping both for the moment but will probably get another 700 and retire the red one when the ULEZ comes into force.
They are different riding positions the 650 being more relaxed and the 700 much more sit up. The 700 gets better MPG by 5 or 6 miles but nothing much.
The 700 is easier in theory to modify, better electrical output and better genuine accessories such as spotlight mounts.

6 of one half dozen of the other with the ulez thrown in. Both are good at what they do and I am loathe to get rid of the red one as it is nice to ride. Only really worth more if you want a newer bike I suppose.
