Aye up!

I'm working in Manchester at the moment, it's the first time I've spent any considerable amount of time in a big UK city outside of London. Been here since last Wednesday and will be here for a few weeks.

There seems to be way more homelessness around here than there is in London, also, judging purely on behaviour, the homeless people in London seem proportionally more to be the "had a spot of bad luck" type, whereas here they seem to be mostly on a mad bender or passed out.

Curious why the difference in numbers and type?

More money given to them down there and Tesco still do the £3 meal deal.

I assume they're swept out of sight in London a little more effectively so that tourists and the political classes don't have to see them.

There are significantly more "homeless" (i.e. professional beggars) in Glasgow than even two or three years ago. It's a growth industry.
