She doesn't need to understand end-to-end encryption to know that there should be a way to access the traffic.

So, no back doors, no disabling it, just... unmaths it a bit.

How to mansplain this to her without being a shitlord? Thinking

Well it must be time to buy myself a new mattress for keeping my money safe. As for keeping my evil thoughts safe from being read, my one time pad should help with that.

Nobody with any understanding of the issue came out of that room with any respect for her.

Rudd: This encryption stuff means I can't read what bad people write. Fix it.

Tech: It's not that simple. Bad people would then be able read everything everyone else writes, and they'll just use another encrypted solution.

Rudd: DON'T TALK DOWN TO ME!

This is the thing about politicians. They suck at everything. We can see it clearly in this example of stupidity because we understand encryption.

It applies to everything they do. Somewhere there's another forum where professionals who work in the NHS or schools or as bin men scream at the stupidity of politicians, who meddle in their field with no understanding of it.

Cringe Factor 7.

I honestly have no idea what it is that she wants to happen. I'm fairly sure she doesn't either.

Politicans seem to have a problem with binary choices, which is rather a problem when dealing with computers.

I've read the article and I have come to the following conclusion (and I'm so excited a little bit of wee fell out)...

This has to be an advert for a new series of The Thick Of It.

I get the same feeling with the judiciary, when you read about tech cases.

I thought we had all this before, with BBM during the 2011 riots Doh!

Fucking Amber Rudd!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-41484909

I'm still trying to work out if my kids can ask for vinegar on their chips. Or if it's OK for a 17 year old to buy a car with a battery in it.

My first question before the jerking of the knees commences would be "how many of these corrosive attacks were carried out by under 18s".

My second, perhaps less PC one would be looking for a breakdown by ethnicity because I believe acid attacks are a common form of "Honour" attack in certain Asian communities.

I reckon a number of them are, but banning the sale of knives for under 18s hasn't stopped knife crime. Before we get all mpd about it whitey doesn't seem to mind partaking in acid attacks.

Sure, but I was still more about finding out what the problem actually is before you can do something about it.

I'm also pretty sure that there is a definate cultural aspect to corrosive attacks.

It's like the world health organisation spending all theri money and efforty on child vaccination programs, then finding out the biggest cause of death was drowning.

It's definitely an imported custom, but one we seem to have willingly adopted.

It's scary not just because she doesn't really get it ( my understanding is pretty basic ) but, that in her position, and given that she has a relatively strong view on what she thinks should be happening, she doesn't appear to have taken any time at all with anyone who does know about the topic to try to grasp what she's asking for.

Apply that to all politicians on all topics....

Usually though they're legislating human behaviour. Humans are tricksy.

Ordering fundamental properties of the universe to alter, well, that's threesy as pi.
