Can you recommend a motorcycle recovery van in London, to move a bike from zone 1 to 2? No accident, it’s just that I cannot ride it at the moment.

Yes, I know there are loads of people that do this kind of service – just wondering if you can recommend one in particular.

Thanks!

You cannot ride it, or the bike cannot be ridden - a clarification is needed here.

option A - requires a kind BCFer, option B requires a van...

which is it?

I cannot ride it, but the bike can be ridden. The problem is me, not the bike: no accident, no damage, MOT, regularly insured - although a 3rd party rider wouldn’t be covered directly – AFAIK it’s legal to get a mate to ride it, but, in case of an accident, my insurer would then go after me to recover the costs.

Anyway, I have a couple of friends I could ask, but I’d rather not (regardless of insurance) if I can find a recovery van that doesn’t charge insane rates – prices seem to vary between £50 and £80. I’d expect the van to drive me, too, so the real price would, in fact, be lower, because, for a number of reasons I won’t go into here, I’d still need to take a minicab myself on the same route (ca. £20), even if a mate rode my bike.

Just sit on an ice pack, you (figurative but now closer to being literal) girl.

Thank you for the precious tip, doctor!

I ended up renting a van myself as all the ones I contacted weren't interested in such a short journey or wanted a lot of money. Hertz 24/7 are good, only problem's you need a ramp and ideally a front wheel chock.

Get someone to ride it who has 'riding other bikes' on their insurance.

In the end I called this guy: https://www.bikermedics.com/

Nice chap, I'd recommend him.

A BCFer also offered a lift, but the time just didn't work.
