Surprised that this has not leapt to the top of the postings.
I have never witnessed a more pathetic display of a dead (wo)man walking in many a year. I would be chortling and getting out the pop corn to watch the coming blood letting, except, these are the people actually in charge of European negotiations. Leave or remain, at least give us someone capable of making decisions.

To be fair that could happen to anyone and she did persevere and get to the end of it.

The saddest part was the 'comedian' who delivered the P45. It doesn't matter what your politics are, his 'joke' fell totally flat and only seemed to unite the crowd.

I listened to Ms May's speech on the radio. The more she does this sort of thing, the more convinced I am that she is in fact a badly programmed robot. What a load of hollow platitudes, sound-bite nonsense and fake emotion!!!

It was funnier when he threw money at Sepp Blatter Very Happy https://youtu.be/0pqO6tK8_Wg?t=14s

She's extremely awkward and doesn't come across well at all, I dunno why you'd want to put yourself in that position. Politicians are extremely deluded though...

Even as a life-long leftie, I felt sorry for her.

She got off to a good start the day she took office (she wasn't ever elected remember) and made that speech on the doorstep in Downing Street. That first speech was really good, balanced, hopeful, promising fairness. I had to pinch myself to remember she was a Tory Prime Minister.

It's all gone tits-up since, in personal, political and policy terms.

Ignoring the distractions of this conference speech and looking at the content, she is obviously really suffering from the absence of the two missing close advisors she was forced to sack after the general election disaster. They wrote much better speeches for her and obviously coached her.

As for the cough, surely her minders could have had medical assistance on hand to dose her up beforehand to last the distance of the speech. Coughing, watery eyes and hoarseness give the impression of "choking on her own words" and not even believing them herself.

As for letting Simon Brodkin in (when he's a known prankster and has even had his own TV shows showing how he plans and executes his stunts) and putting him on the front row, you couldn't make it up! Unless of course, there is so little support for her within the Tory machine, that Brodkin was deliberately allowed in. Same question for security. We've only just had the terror threat reduced from the highest level and yet he got close enough to touch her and wasn't even challenged for several moments afterwards, giving him the chance to dance around Boris.

So, sympathy aside, the speech and everything around it was shambolic and evidence that the Tory party is plotting its own demise through its incompetence.

Finally as a fashionista (manqué) am I the only one who noticed her bracelet? It had portraits of the artist Frieda Karlo, one-time lover of Trotsky on it. Freudian slip anyone?

Her speech was hilarious. Does she not realise people know what the Tories are all about? Confused

No. As opined before, Theresa the Appeaser is a fundamentally stupid person possessed of very little understanding.

She's also spineless, lacks any sort of firm principles or moral code, and is a coward and a bully to those who cannot answer back.

Her one saving grace is that she can read off someone else's (stolen) words off of an autocue tolerably well. Or could, until this performance.

You could replace her with a mediocre actor - think one who makes it 5 minutes into Midsomer Murders before turning round and saying "Oh, it's you! Aaargh!" - and not notice any significant difference.

I've always loathed her, and my contempt hasn't mellowed into pity.

She needs to go, and to go now.

I think we should have a rota. Everyone gets a go, for a day. It wouldn't be any worse.

I wanted to know the truth behind the headlines so I just listened to the whole speech and I thought it was pretty good, though I'm not a Tory. May spoke for an hour and five minutes and despite reports the cough only really stopped her during a five minute period in the middle. I recall having a similar episode at work and I had to retreat to the bogs and cough until I retched! May did look awkward at times, especially right at the start, but better that than slick and slimy like Cameron or Blair, at least it's genuine.

The lame "comedian" appeared after 20 minutes and was ejected within a minute. The BBC seems to like him but I've never found him at all funny.

BBC wrote:
Changes to the housing and energy markets were among the key announcements in Theresa May's speech to the Conservative Party conference in Manchester.
But the bigger news lines from the prime minister's speech were her struggles with a cough, and a prankster,

Really!? Very poor reporting. The media has a lot to answer for. I think some of the Tory party resent May simply because she hasn't said no to Brexit.

You're talking about the content, right, not the presentation?

I read the transcript and it's just more rewarming the same mouldy pizza topped with the blandest chunks of tofu and copious quantities of cheese.

tl;dr version - "I made mistakes but everything I did was right. I am in favour of good things. Down with bad things. I have a dream."

A dream, but no vision. Out, now. Patel for Dark Mistress.

I have to agree with Roger. Politics has become a 'who can promise to give the most away' scenario.

Corbyn has promised the earth. People who have very little are (quite understandably) looking at him with avaricious eyes. The problem for May is a large swathe of Tories middle class vote are falling into the 'have not as much' group and aren't happy with that so she is offering the freebies to get them back.

Note I say offering. Actually giving isn't on the cards yet. Rolling Eyes

I'm no fan of either May or Corbyn.

But ffs, she was full of cold. It's going around, so many people I know have been off work or are suffering, there's 5 of us and 4 have been really ill.

Do people really expect our leaders never to be ill.
