Bloke's obviously a foggit, he actually did a "motorcycle safety course" before buying his 1600. Tut Tut

Doesn't appear that money is a problem to this chap, since he bought a bike he never even rode after binning it, then bought another on top of that

The guy takes great pride in driving a non-automatic car? I understand non-automatic cars are rarer on the other side of the pond, but, still, it’s not rocket science!

I heard a similar story from a dealer, about a guy who wanted to switch from a scooter to a VFR 1200 DCT, thinking that the DCT would have been just like a scooter. I don’t know if the genius only had an automatic licence, or if he had a full manual one but never rode a manual bike, or what; fact is, the guy books a test ride, hops on while the bike is still inside the showroom, twists the throttle like there’s no tomorrow, smashes into another bike parked by the front door, totalling not 1 but two bikes!

Bikes are tools of Darwinian selection, way more than cars.

I see this from a lot of americans. It's like they think they're special or "real drivers" because they can "drive stick".

No wonder he crashed. He has too many legs.

Probably distracted by all those legs.

yup, watched a 'friend' try and drive a mates car after we'd got bored of his boasting that he could drive anything because he could drive 'stick' and how he was a great driver.

forgot to mention to him that the Moggy Minor's synchromesh was quite badly worn and none existent on 1st, was quite funny to watch,

started to throw his dummy out and insisted that I drove to prove it was the car, no problems, just double declutch and all's well Very Happy

the aftermath was hillarious ranging from sulking in the corner to complete fits of rage about 'stupid English cars'

There I am sitting on GSA bout to test drive and the salesman said they have a 3 strike rule. Stall 3 times and your test ride is void.

Not come across that before, but sounds like a good idea from the dealer's point of view (maybe this one needed a zero-strike rule though... Shocked )

Also, maybe I'm missing something but from that story it sounded like although the crashed bike was insured, the OP was going to buy it as soon as it was repaired and then immediately sell it, which didn't sound at all unusual to him?

Yep, that's exactly what he did. Apparently the Insurance Co later wrote it off and gave him the cash.

I just love the thought process.

The logical next step for someone who cannot engage 1st gear on the FIRST BIKE he has ever tried to test ride, is to immediately buy a bigger, heavier, more expensive and more powerful one.

Oh, and buy the crashed one for good measure...

A powerful argument for gun controls if nothing else.

So a whole day after the original post, our hero posts this (on riding his 1600 GT):

Merkin Moron wrote:
I don't feel like a danger to myself or others with the bike now or I wouldn't be on the road. I'm a new rider still and I'm aware of that so I'm pretty much just sticking in my lane and getting where I'm going but I don't feel nervous on the bike anymore and nothing about it feels awkward anymore, it all feels very natural.

Bless...

Those who don't feel like a danger tend to be the most dangerous.
