Nothing special, it's for a car radio fitted to my boat and I want to mount surface speakers on the wall.

The wall is fitted wood lined so I don't want to cut into it and I haven't the floor/cupboard top space for free standing ones.

There are ones on ebay for £50/60

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-FLAT-PANEL-HIFI-AUDIO-HOME-CINEMA-SPEAKER-WALL-MOUNTABLE-SPEAKERS-PASSIVE-SET-/291815943466?hash=item43f195ed2a:g:MloAAOSwJH1ZLQpY

however these are 3.5cm thick and 35 mm is not in my classification as thin. Laughing Also, what does passive mean in speaker context?

I don't want super dooper hi fi, just to be able to listen to the radio in the evenings so don't really want to spend too much more than above.

Passive means powered by source with no power supply of their own. Interesting thread, I am too after some low
profile speakers but for a different application. Let me know if these are any good. Thumbs Up

Thin speakers produce thin sound, get a subwoofer as well. Wink

You may place the subwoofer anywhere, it does not matter, and it will compensate for the lack of bass and some mid frequencies, that you'll be loosing with thin speakers.

Now, thin/small speakers that would sound good/full/rich require some serious engineering, which only makes them expensive.

There's 1 review of those speakers on Amazon, or ones identical to them.
Cunts indeed! Laughing

I've read the Amazon review and it's just as expected. People having no understanding of how speakers and acoustics work, bitching about the sound lacking bass with limited mid range. Rolling Eyes

After a bit of a ponder on the subject over the weekend I'm probably going to go with a soundbar and wireless sub combo.
I have one in the sitting room and the sound is good enough for what I want to achieve.

I looked at a sound bar but the ones I looked at were all 240v powered and I don't have or want 240v on my boat. A pity because a small sound bar would be ideal.

Just for closure and incase anyone else is interested, I ended up buying the Dynavox WS-502 speakers.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dynavox-WS-502-Panel-Speaker-White/dp/B002GZ84NW/ref=sr_1_sc_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1508147790&sr=1-2-spell&keywords=dynovox

Not too bad at all. Yes, if you turn the volume up high you can tell the bass is lacking but for use in the restricted space of my boat they are absolutely fine.

They seem pretty well made and have a bit of weight to them but I've got them up on the walls with decent velcro

I'm quite pleased for £50 Thumbs Up
