I do a lot of riding over Dartmoor in the dark and the fog, and I was thinking I should maybe fit a fog light. I was wondering about a pair of these on the bottom of the mudguard under the number plate, but they're not E-marked. Is anyone (police, MOT) likely to check, or care?

I've read the Vehicle Lighting Regulations as best I can, and AFAICS the lack of E-mark is the only thing wrong with them. I can mount them 100mm away from the stop light, and have a tell-tale on the switch.

The only fog lights I can find that are E-marked are huge, and probably not suitable to mount on a plastic mudguard.

Maybe subject to Construction and Use laws.

On cars, trucks etc. there are strict regulation on what where and when various lights can be used.

Check with a Bike MOT station. They have to fail if anything is not legal.

(But some testers can make human errors and not see some stuff like Not For Road Use on cans. Smile )

Nope, lots of illegal stuff can be fitted to a vehicle and it still pass an mot if that stuff is not a testable item, such as a foglamp on a motorbike.

And things like high power headlight bulbs marked "not for road use", MOT man isn't allowed to remove them to inspect them, and i have never heard of a case of PC Plod asking any motorist to remove headlight bulbs to check for road worthyness/legalness either

Fucknuckels.

The OP already stated legal shit.

If there is any doubt check it out.

The internet is no place to find facts.

The OP is also asking is anyone likely to care

And as pointed out, if foglights are not an MOT requirement/testable item, then no, the MOT man won't care

And PC Plod won't care either, if he even knows the regs himself (which i suspect most wont)
