So this is as good a place as any to ask ..
I did my Mod 1 and I got no minors, I felt in control of the bike. On the first day out when I got my new bike (second hand) I got home and misjudged the angle of the pavement vs the weight of the bike.
Basically I was able to slowly lower the bike before I fell off, so no damage and no scratches but since then my confidence has been knocked a bit. I mean I'm ok out on the road, but given my riding experience totals about 30 hours including all my lessons this was shaken me a bit.
I know what I did wrong and I know not to do it again, but I'm not comfortable at slow speeds especially when turning, any tips or do I just go find a car park and practice again.
Kinda hoping my honesty and request for advice will bypass the arsehole responses this time .. |

Pretty much, don't approach a weird camber if you can avoid it. My mate went down on his R1 years ago because the road fell away on the left, he stopped at some lights and because he wasn't too long legged, he put his leg out and the floor wasn't there, he leant further than he expected and over he went.
I dropped my bike after my foot slipped off the centre stand lever thing. I fell off my CG at 0.2 mph after using too much gas coming out of a wet junction on cold tyres.
Slow moving, for me, is loads of revs, clutch slipping and some rear brake. Seems to tighten the bike up loads, no flip flopping left to right. ____________________ I'm Sam; Northern, Ginger, Lover

Don't sweat it, I've "laid down" my Nazi Tractor a couple of times through low speed foggitry. It happens. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Chasing a rabbit down it's hole does not constitute 'lying it down'. That comes when you have caught said rabbit. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

I once pulled up in front of a pub (sunny day, lots of people in the beer garden) went to put my foot down and as I straightened my leg, got an attack of cramp. My foot failed reach the floor, but the bike certainly didn't!
We've all done it. At least once.
As for tips ... in slow manoeuvres, always look where you want the bike to go. Not at the bike, not at the wheel and not at the ditch ____________________ Triumph Sprint ST 1050. And it's Red. |
