ns 125 engine failure

my ns has suffered an engine failure long and the short of it the pison is toast and found 15mm of ring in the exhaust, there is a score in a barrel and my question is?

is the barrel on these nikasil and are they easily bored out? i think will need 0.5mm or above minimum

I don't think you bore Nikasil barrels.

When one of my NSR's lost rings and screwed up the barrel, piston, head etc ... I bought a whole new top end from David Silver for not much over £200 at the time.

This included barrel, head, piston, rings, pin and clips, small end bearing, PV seals, base gasket and head gasket.

If I remember correctly, the pistons are marked A,B,C, etc for bore wear sizing. I think the idea is that when the bore wears, you just upsize the piston a bit to get the correct clearance.

are you sure it's a NS125 ?
could you put a pict of the barrel with intake
if i have a good memory NS has the same engine as the MTX125 and mtx wasnt nikalized

If it is an NS125 then the barrel is nikasil, either that or the shop I took mine to were lying! You can get away with a light hone (what they did to remove the small nip mark on mine) but other than that you need a replacement barrel, I think theirs was £110ish service exchange but this is going back a good number of years!

woëssner make pistons kits at +0.5 , +1.0 , +1.5 mm so it's possible to rebore the barrel (i think you need +1.0 or +1.5 due to the dammage)
