I just don't get this.

You cook chicken.
You check it's cooked through before serving.
Cooking requires heat.
Heat kills germs.

I do not wash my meat. But I do rinse out the packaging before it goes in the recycling bin or the dog gets all interested.

I don't wash beef, but pork and chicken gets rinsed. Don't fancy that slimy old stuff that coats it.
I am aware of splashing all over the sink area, trying to kill me, but I aint dead yet, nor have I poisoned anyone.

I've never washed meat. I was a butcher (saturday job) for three and a half years, and this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone cleaning meat - wtf?

Lol at the comments though. I think I might use lime and salt to flavour my next roast chicken Very Happy

My housemate washes his meat. Right in front of me sometimes as well.

I've never understood it. Harmful bacteria doesn't just fall away when water is splashed on it.
If water did that, why would we use soap on our hands?

Come to think of it, I did rinse my Pepperami once after I'd dropped it in the gutter.

My interest in the subject is due to a debate with my nearest and dearest who wants to wash meat.
I say no as cooking kills all the germs her washing is aimed at.
Defrosting is another alien technology many folk strugglr with.

Fast safe defrost is kept in a bowl of running cold water. The water under 5°C should prevent bacteria growing as the food thaws.
Thawing at room temp is very naughty as the surface of food reaches temp where bacteria will grow.
My boss argued with my science on that one. He would never cook from frozen as he thought it unsafe.
But it fine so long as you allow extended time to cook.

I sometimes rinse chicken off to get rid of the slim stuff but that's about it. I also don't understand how it will spread germs everywhere, don't have the tap on fall blast, simple.

I've never rinsed fresh meat, I've left chicken to thaw at room temperature, I've thawed and refrozen meat, I've cooked chicken and left it in a pot over night..... I got fed up counting how many times this has killed me Rolling Eyes

The thawing or re-freezing and getting deaded thing is un-difinative.

The basic rules of it are:
If you meet skanky meat then your chances of dying (daihighoreeyah) are more probable if you then employ poor hygiene methods in preparing, cooking and storing dead animals or parts of.
There is statistical evidence to show that.

The idea is to reduce the occurrence and spread of harmful Germans.

There is very clear scientific evidence of the way bacteria behave to suggest that not washing meat, cooking meat thoroughly and then handling cooked meat properly will reduce or eliminate the bacteria on food deading you.

I thought washing chicken risked the spread of campylobacter. Cooking it properly should kill any bacteria.

The problem that video shows is that if you've got other food near to the sink when you wash fresh meat then you'll end up splashing germs onto that nearby food.

They don't wash meat in an abbatoir.

If you drop half a cow on the (actually pretty clean) floor, they trim the outside to remove any contamination.

I thought washing the meat was in the odd chance someone had been wearing the chickens as slippers and sliding around the store room.
