TL;DR for now, full details to follow.

Edit: occurred Monday 16th at 6.30PM

Sitting at lights at Stamford Hill junction (the big one with Sainsbury's on the corner.
3 or 4 scooters surround me, yoots jump off and a tussle ensues.
Two grab me from behind while another goes for my keys.
Knives present.
Initial fight instinct turns to "feck it not worth getting stabbed for a bike".
They make off with bike.
Rang police who sent armed response and chopper which happened to be overhead.
Rang BikeTrac who were simply flawless in their actions.
Jumped into police car and gave chase.
Directed police while yoots were circling the area. Could see them on the tracker the whole time.
Eventually they parked (hid) the bike in an estate in Tottenham.
BikeTrac lead us to the bike. No damage.
Bike now locked up in my brother's garage. Not to be used for the foreseeable future.

Damage to bike: None - but for some reason they changed the brake/clutch lever positions.
Damage to me: couple bruises on my back and utter shock.

Long version to come soon with helmet cam footage.

Yep - Biketrac posted the incident on their FB page and someone commented that thieves are actively going for MT09s now.

There's no surprise there! Laughing

That's a really terrible situation to be in, and I guess while it's good you got your bike back undamaged, those are the sort of situations that makes you paranoid.

Footage will be good to see once it's uploaded Smile

I don't know what the answer is with this problem. I know if I was in london though, I wouldn't be riding anything but a shitter scooter. Even then I'd probably get it stolen. Police definitely need more powers, but I can see the problem with london. People are happy to riot over some scumbag getting shot, yet give zero fucks about this sort of thing.

Kill little jimmy, and all of a sudden he was so loveable, loyal, best friend, loved his chantelle.

good thing you're ok - not worth the risk thinking fuck it they wont stab me

defo put the bike away for a bit - youll have recurring images next time you go out on the bike, it will take a while to get over them

source: ive had a similar incident working in a bookies years ago

Biketrac have been getting a good name for themselves.

Any chance you'd post about your theft on this group?

Yeah, I remember seeing them on tv and on youtube. I get that it's promotional material, but they obviously make an effort to find the stolen items. Often more than the police.

I'm not on FB unfortunately. I have been in touch with Biketrac to see if I can help them to get this story out there so other's can see and for general awareness really.

I have to say, from the moment I rang Biketrac, they were on it with no delay. No waiting, no being put on hold, the guys was there from first call to the end. Efficiently directing the police and giving valuable information about the area and shortcuts that can be taken.
He was super calm and despite the craziness of the police radio in the background and lots of shouting, he remained focused on the job. 10/10 service right to the end.
Even after the bike was found he insisted on speaking to me to make sure I was OK. Didn't catch his name at the time, but top bloke and a top service.

I know, right! the officer did say not to worry about it, they don't have the resources to divert attention to those things right now!

Well done for reacting in what is probably the best way. I guess that instinct could take over and stabbies could happen.

Were the keys still with the bike?

Hey, glad you're alive and the bike is back with you.
You did the right thing to not put up a fight, no bike is worth being stabbed for (esp as you have a tracker fitted!)

Not too sure you could have prevented this without ignoring traffic lights and not stopping in that there London.

Do they really? What additional powers would have helped here? They have the power to stop, search and summarily arrest anyone carrying knives.

I'd say they need to exercise the powers they have.

That's about the same time I got bikejacked on Monument Way, about 2 miles further down the road. I picked them up on the A10 as well.

I got a call last night, my scooter has also been recovered, and better yet, they arrested a scrote who sounds young enough to be the chap who tackled me. They're interviewing and I'll be going in at some point and examining photos to see if I recognize him. I don't yet know how badly damaged the scooter is.

Looks like the tracker is a solid investment. Should I go back to using my scooter, I'll have one installed.
