Hi there,

I'm after a bit of information on Honda VIN tags...

The background is my dads 2000 CB250 Nighthawk got stolen a few weeks ago but he got a call yesterday to say it had been recovered. Good news except for the fact they've nicked the headlight and also removed the alloy vin tag thats attached to the frame.

So we want to get a replacement VIN tag made up.

There appear to be 2 types though;

Can anyone tell us what is the correct style of VIN plate for a 2000 Honda is as we don't have pictures of the original lying about?

I assume its the second of the above? If so can anyone also shed light on;

- if both weight boxes are to be stamped (if so, i know the first is the V5 weight but what is the second for?)
- what the "P.V.A" box is for?

Thanks in advance!

Does it matter? AFAICT, only the VIN number itself will matter at MOT time, and you can stamp that directly on the frame.

I believe its already stamped on the frame.

We want the bike restored hence wanting the reproduction tag so its "as it was".

There is no value in a restored 250 Nighthawk, grab any vin plate.

To clarify this isn't restore-to-sell, its restore-to-keep.

He just wants the VIn plate back to be accurate when we're finished...it might be pointless but its his bike so...

Can anyone confirm which plate we should use and my other questions?

For that level of fine detail, you're probably going to need someone WAY more anally retentive about middle of the road Universal Japanese Bikes.

Try these guys: www.hoc.org.uk

Hint, hint.

The veracity of the answer doesn't actually matter. Convincing him of it does.
