If you want a lordship, it's about £15 for a square foot of land that comes with the title and it even comes with the forms you need to fill out for the DVLA.

Wifes 18YO brother has just done this. Lord Jordan. Laughing He was telling me about it last week when we met up for a drink.

what is the point of it?

not sure makes a difference on driving license, but mrs is a dr and it's on her passport. extra page in there with her credentials and it goes on the system when she's on a plane that they can come fetch her should aunt nellie decide to have palpitations a mile in the air.

careful what you wish for in some cases I suppose

?? My wife and daughter both medics too, but in both cases there's nothing on their passports at all referring to their doctor status. Never heard of this - how does it even happen? There's certainly nothing within the passport application about it.

It's easy to do on a license. The a box for you to tick you title, but there's a space for 'other`. You just put your chosen title there.

she was rushing it through so had to deal with them on the phone. they simply asked "do you want it to say doctor?" and she was like, ok... if you like... and then it came.

Surely for it to include a credentials page they must have required proof of her medical status... does the page include her GMC number? I wonder if they cross-referenced her against the Medical Register? Seems baffling that medics aren't actively pushed towards declaring their status during a passport application (which would seem to make sense for the "Is there a doctor on board" scenario"), yet this facility/feature exists for including it in a passport?

What are the point of honorary doctorates, publicity for the uni? I think it cheapens the degree if they give them away Neutral

As I understand it, it's a mixture of that and to recognise people that have made extraordinary achievements.

Seeing that it was for "Communications and Advertising for Organisations" - and he's certainly been pretty good at mareketing his brand and the manufacturers he works for - not entirely unjustified, actually!

I worked with a guy who claimed that his brother bought one of those foot-square lord titles - then changed his first name to Lord by deed poll so that people had no choice but to call him it.

Also know a guy who changed his surname to Hunnybunnywoowoo. I asked him why he would do that and he said "It was only 36 quid..."

to be honest I don't know exactly what's on there. I just know theres a special doctor page in there. it most likely just states doctor and probably GMC number. I'll have a nosy next time I spot it. We're half way through a house move atm in temporary digs, so no idea where it is
