Payday is here again

My Yamaha xj6 gets some money spent on it again
Last month was a Puig screen

So I have a choice of rear hugger with integrated chain guard or full set of engine bars

Which would be most useful?
Am erring towards the hugger as we are hitting the rainy season in the Midlands.

Cost difference is about 30-40 pounds

Bearing in mind my bike is a commuter and I am a relative novice to motorbike commuting (read total noob) and I will be commuting in all weathers except total whiteout or total freeze up however I do work shifts so possible I could be riding in weather that wasn't the same as when I went to work

Any advice gratefully received

Planning on getting both but can only do 1 at a time
120 for bars and 90-120 for hugger depending which one I go for
have seen heed bars and rentec, anyone with experience of either

I'd probably go for the bars first if you're set on both. You can clean a dirty bike for free, but cracked engine cases will cost hundreds.

But do get that hugger pretty soon. A couple of winters will soon trash your shock. Picked up a CBF500 for my wife, was used as commuter hack and had no hugger. Shock rear link was seized solid to bearing and in turn to bolt through swing arm. Whole thing was just rotating on bolts in swing arm! Was an absolute bitch to hack saw off, all attempts to freeze, heat, penetrate it with stuff would budge it.

Think the XJ6 has shock attached to linkage bit separate for swing arm, so probably won't be quite as much hassle. But new shock will still cost you £300, refurb likely £100-200 ish.

The huger now is probably as clean as you're ever go to see it: apply some ACF-50 all over and thank yourself later.

Based on the annual wash I just gave mine there's no part that's more of a pain in the arse to get at.
