This was added in GC as well, but fuck it, this is probably a more apt place;

Quote:
Dear Supporter,

Thank you for visiting the KillSpills website and adding your name to our on line petition. Without your help, our campaign would not have made such an impact.

-Are you fed up with diesel spills?
-Do you want to improve road safety for bikers and other road users?
-Do you want to be part of one of the biggest bike rallies London has ever seen?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions then the KillSpills Team would like to personally invite you, and as many of your biking friends to join us at the KillSpills road safety rally to be held at the Ace Café London at 11am on the 11th September.

Don't just read about it in the news and magazines, be a part of it! Join the KillSpills team at the Ace Café, Ace Corner, North Circular Road, Stonebridge, London, at 11am on the 11th September 2004.

The route will take the rally from the Ace Café, onto the North Circular road, heading towards Hangar Lane. We will then take the A40 to Paddington, turning off onto the Edgware Road, Park Lane, Marble Arch, Constitution Hill, Queen Victoria Memorial, The Mall, Trafalgar Square and on down Whitehall. The bikes will park at Millbank. We will set off at approximately 12.00 hours from the Ace Café, arriving at Millbank at 13.30 hours. The KillSpills team will continue to Downing Street and hand the petition in at 14.00 hours. The team will return to Millbank around 14.30 hours where there will be time for group photos. A minute's silence in memory of 9/11 will be held at 15.00 hours. The Police will then escort the rally back to the Ace Café

If you intend to come to the rally, reply to this email and let us know your coming.

The rally is designed to be a fun day, showing the caring and responsible side to motorcycling, whilst delivering what we believe to be a very important road safety message to the Government. The route we will take will pass a lot of the major sights so there will be plenty of opportunity for you to waive at passers bye.

The KillSpills team really appreciate your support, we can and will make a difference, and your attendance here today re-enforces our safety message.

Visit www.killspills.org.uk for more details.

Thank you for your support, we look forward to seeing you at the rally.

Stephen Edwards,
Daz Bourne,
Jo Evans,
Neil Flitcroft
Martin Fishwick

PRESS RELEASE BY THE BMF

September 2004
PEER PRESSURE ON DIESEL SPILLS

A plea by the British Motorcyclists Federation to motorcycling Peer Lord Rotherwick to help stop the lethal problem of diesel spills, has resulted in an undertaking from the Government that the Secretary of State for Transport will issue official guidance as part of the Government’s new Traffic Management Bill.

Coming as it does just over a week before the KillSpills diesel protest rally* in London next weekend, the 140,000 strong BMF, the UK’s largest and most influential rider organisation, thanked Lord Rotherwick for his resolute determination in the House of Lords to get the issue of diesel spillage raised during the Committee Stages of the Traffic Management Bill.

He was successful in placing an amendment, (formulated by the BMF), calling for a statutory obligation to be placed upon those authorities responsible for the road network to remove diesel oil and other road surface contamination after a spillage has occurred.

During the debates on amendments to the Bill, Lord Rotherwick, who rides a BMW R1150 RT for his daily commute to the Palace Of Westminster, secured an undertaking from the Government that a requirement to clear diesel spills would be included in the ‘Network Management Duty Guidance’, part of the Traffic Management Bill.

This guidance, currently the subject of a Department of Transport Consultation, will be issued by the Secretary of State for Transport under Section 18 of the Traffic Management Act 2004. Authorities must have regard to this guidance when exercising their road network management duty under the Act.

Thanking Lord Rotherwick for his intervention on the diesel spillage issue, BMF Government Relations Executive Richard Olliffe said: “This issue has been a long-running one for motorcyclists so I was more than pleased to be able to brief Lord Rotherwick on the topic a nd as the BMF is a member of the DfT’s Network Management Duty Guidance consultation group, we will now ensure that comments made by Government are reflected in the final Guidance document”.

Hundreds of motorcyclists are expected to join the KillSpills Road Safety Rally, which will ride through London to deliver a petition to 10 Downing Street on 11th September 2004. See www.killspills.org.uk

Lord Rotherwick is also the landowners of Cornbury Park where the Autumn NABD rally is held. It is on the same weekend and he is usually in attendance.

If anybody who is going gets a chance, say a big thank you from all bikers for his support in this campaign.

Cheers,

Byrnie.

Im probably worrying about nothing but I've never riden in such a big group before and its feeling rather daunting. Did the toy run last year with 3000 other bikes but i was pillion so doesnt count.
Not sure if im more excited about being involved in such a large protest or nervous about riding with so many other bikes. The largest group I have riden with is about 18 of us.
Before anyone takes the mick, I have only been riding for 4 months so am still a newbie to it.
Everyone else whos going with me has been riding for a long time and riden in groups of this size before.
Any tips?

Dont worry. Largest group i've ridden with is about 5. Doesnt matter.

A tip stagger you riding lines, ie dont ride in single file, this gives you more space and more braking distance. You will kind of find out people make space.

Also if somone brakes hard (should really happen) look away from the bike i question, even if you brake, if you are looking at the bike you will brake towards them. Look in some free space to make your bike brake away and into a safe area. Shouldn't really happen, as there is not much to brake harshly about, especially when there is a massive pack of bikers rolling down the street. Very Happy

Just ride at you own pace, people will wait up for you, if you manage to lag behind. No-one will mind.

As far as the run goes, it's to central London through 50s, 40s and 30s. I wouldn't worry too much about 'keeping up'. Wink

The main problem we might have is strong winds and heavy rain as the remnants of hurricane Francis hits... Sad

Providing it's not too bad though, I'll be there, in waterproofs if necessary... Rolling Eyes

Should be going up from East Kent. Hopefully the weather will not be too bad.
