I've wanted one since I saw the promos for the "beast".

Those Austin Racing dual under slung exhausts are fucking naughty as well.

However, is it going to bother me going from 200bhp sports bikes to this thing? I have never really owned a sit up type bike other than a KTM 640 which I loved but blew up quite quickly.

I have been toying with the idea a lot lately after a lad showed up with a friend on a ride a few months back and he had a special edition one and it was trick as fuck.

I still want one and I'm not even arsed about brand reliability these days, heard horror stories from all brands and owned some that should have been nightmares and had less issues than supposed big reiliable Jap brands.

I'll have a re-think come March.

I used to find that every time I switched from the Fazer to the Striple, but would get used to it within a couple of miles. Can't remember why I didn't try adjusting it.

I would love to know how they compare against the 990, 60 extra bhp sounds nice but I find my 990 just the right amount of power (as in you can use all of it on the road), but I've never owned anything with more so Laughing I see a lot of 1290's around Hartside, there was a SE model last week which are lovely:

https://cdn.bcf.44bytes.net/files/2016-ktm-1290-super-duke-r-special-edition.jpg

Think I prefer the stealthier look of the 2017 bikes though, plus the TFT screen looks nifty.

My 990 is my first vtwin and I really like the engine, and of course the filthy noise it makes Shifty Shifty Shifty Maybe a 1290 will be on the cards some day, but had the 990 just over a year and still love it.

Ive had 990sm for 7 year's, fancy something a little different but i do like 990. The 1290 is so much more smoother at low revs, the sm is so twitchy.

TBH it's the only bike in 7 year's i considered buying.i like orange and white.

Yeah mate bloody phone predictive text, i will get it adjusted, felt wrong, was a lot of effort to bend my foot down. I busted my tendants which does not help.

On a laptop now can properly post.

I actually pefered the riding position on the duke compared to my 99SM, the sm you are pretty much bang up right, the duke feels a little more aggressive leaning a bit forward.

I only went out for 30mins and the roads were a bit patchy but the thing pulls, the first thing i noticed is how much smoother the throttle is, you can ride it slow without looking like you just passed your test. The 990SM was very on and off, great if your going for it but trying to plod along at 30 was a struggle.

The previous owner must have not liked pulling on the brakes as it was literally a touch of the brakes to dip the front of the bike, will be adjusting that if i buy it as i like a little bit of give before the anchors go on.

The tank feels bigger than that the SM more wider which suits my size a bit better as can easily grip the sides with my thighs, the SM is a wee bit narrower. The tank shape really does make you feel part of the bike.

The super duke did not have a full tank of fuel in it but it felt about the same weight as the super duke very light which i really like, loved to be able to through the SM about in the twistys and think the duke will be as good.

Height wise its a bit lower but i felt like i had plenty of leg room, it was a short run on the bike so can't say how much it would differ of sitting on the saddle for 8 hours.

What i did not like a mentioned was the gear leaver which will need to be adjusted. The menu system to change ABS and ride modes is a pain in the arse so would look at getting the dongle thingy so it stores your settings.

The Austin Racing cans look cool, but sound awful in my opinion, but I know some people like raw ear bleeding sound Smile The Akra full system is the way to go but at 2k you might as well buy a second bike!

It’s also worth noting that the official stance from KTM is that any after market parts not from their PowerParts catalog will void the warranty. I hate this approach from them, but it’s down to people sticking stubby cans on the bike with a de-cat, and not making the appropriate mapping and filter changes, stubbys look cool but most of the time actually stifle performance and cause issues.

I don’t think coming from a 200bhp bike will be a problem, you won’t have the straight line speed but you will have stupid levels or torque pulling you out of every bend. I was out with 4 tuned up H2’s last weekend, and they were all shocked when the Duke started pulling away.

I’ve found the extra travel, and supermoto on steroids approach, is perfect for the road. I’m now loving some of the bumpy and dirty B-roads that weren’t much fun on a sportsbike. The feel you get from the rear is excellent, I know exactly what it’s doing and I’m not bothered by the odd slip or spin. The drawback is that when pushing on track you don’t have the same level of feel from the front that you get from a superbike, this effects long fast bends, but is probably down to my skill level more than the bikes capability.

The electronics package is amazing. I dial it all down but it’s nice to know there is still a helping hand. The quick shifter and blipper are awesome, and I’ve grown to love the dash and keyless ignition. It also has some nice touches, like built in loops for Kriega luggage under the pillion seat.

I test rode a superduke GT during a "am I too old and knackered to be riding a superbike everywhere" moment a couple of months ago.

Found it so dull I almost fell asleep.

Was comfy though. Nothing wrong with it, just such a non-event actually riding it.

I gather the non GT version is tuned slightly harder, but still, meh....

Decided I'd never be that old an knackered.

Hmm i went from a ZX10R to a KTM 990sm and if found it much more fun on the road, the superduke r seems as much fun. I don't really think its an old mans bike but im 37 not 60 Laughing In saying that ive not ridden the RSV4 but ive had my fun on sportsbikes.

You must have been doing it wrong Very Happy

Loved my Tuono 1100, it’s a superbike with bars, and scalpel like when it comes to performance. The SuperDuke on the other hand is much more lively and playful on the road.

I've no idea what "playful" actually means, but ripping the throttle open on the Duke did not bring the mixture of excitement, terror and deafness that the Aprilia does! Laughing

That said, it's plenty quick enough, but felt anything but sporty.

Mind you, the wide tank mixed with my short legs probably didn't help the sensation! I couldn't really get tucked into it comfortably either, and riding upright seems totally alien to me after years of laying across a tank. I only tried the GT version, so the slightly beefier full fat version maybe a bit more of an event, but I certainly didn't walk away feeling like I needed it in my life.

Although, I may regret that decision next May when I have to load 2 weeks worth of camping kit onto my bike! Laughing

Playful means it will power wheelie in the first 4 gears, my Aprilia could only do the first 3 Surprised

Never ridden the GT but I thought it was just a slightly more lardy/practical version, not boring. The R version is an absolute weapon on the road and track.

Seeing some of the car accidents up there, you realise you need balls of steel to do it on a bike, especially in the time he did!
